Matt Murphy started the current season in the AHL organization of the Iowa Wild, but wore the jersey of the Iowa Heartlanderes in the East Coast Hockey League in 13 games. As a junior, Murphy won the prestigious Memorial Cup in 2013 alongside NHL superstar Nathan MacKinnon with the Halifax Mooseheads. After playing a total of 157 games with 76 points for the Mooseheads and another season with the Quebec Remparts and Saint John Sea Dogs, Murphy ventured to the University of New Brunswick in 2016. In four years and a total of 150 appearances, the now 27-year-old celebrated two Canadian university championships. His first professional contract followed in 2020 in the ECHL, where he again advanced to the finals in his first year with the Fort Wayne Komets, where he was also crowned Kelly Cup champion. At the Steinbach Black Wings, Murphy got a contract until the end of the current season. The new signing is already on its way to Linz.

Matt Murphy: "I asked some friends in the league and heard only good things about Linz and the organization. The team is doing great and I'm really looking forward to helping them out. I would describe myself as a classic two-way defender, though I see my strengths in skating and offense."
