The DEL runner-up Munich was the defender's only European stop so far. In those two seasons, MacWilliam made 75 DEL appearances for the three-time German champions, scoring two goals and 16 assists.

"I've talked to former players from Salzburg many times over the last few years. They only spoke positively about the organization and the city. When the opportunity arose for me to go to Salzburg, I was very happy and gladly accepted," Andrew MacWilliam said of his move from Munich to Salzburg. Before his time in Europe, the 32-year-old played primarily in the AHL, but can also point to twelve NHL appearances for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played a total of 431 AHL games from 2013 to 2020, serving as an assistant captain for most of that time. In his final NCAA year at the University of North Dakota (2012/13), he even led his team onto the ice as captain.
