The Steel Wings got off to a flying start, with Geoff Kitt taking the lead as early as the third minute. The home side, who set the tone, went into the first intermission with this narrow lead. In the middle period, the Upper Austrians again set the pace and in the 38th minute, Eimantas Noreika even scored the second goal. Fassa showed itself too undisciplined, conceding a total of six penalties. The 2:0 lead lasted until the 50th minute, when a shorthanded period proved to be the home side's undoing as Diego Iori pulled one back. And three minutes later, Iori tied it with his second goal. The score remained 2:2 after 60 minutes, and in overtime Stephan Deluca netted the decisive goal for the road win. While Linz remained bottom of Qualification Round A, Fassa moved up to second place.
