The Pioneers already had reason to celebrate before the start of the game: captain Alexander Pallestrang made his comeback after an injury lay-off of almost two months, while new signing Joonas Oden also made his debut. Fehervar conceded the first and only (!) penalty of the game in the fourth minute, but the Pioneers - the best power play in the league - were unable to capitalise on it. Instead, the home side took the lead in the eighth minute when Steve Owre skated in alone on Fehervar goalie Dominik Horvath and scored his 23rd goal of the season - the ideal assist came from Nick Pastujov. The home side went into the first break with a 1:0 lead. The visitors came out stronger after the restart and turned the game in their favour within just four minutes. First Janos Hari equalised, then Istvan Bartalis finished off a great combination - 1:2. The Hungarians continued to defend skilfully in the third period, but were unable to protect the lead to the end. 57 seconds before the end of regulation, a shot by Clayton Kirichenko was unfortunately deflected by Hari and ended up in the net. Both teams had chances in overtime, but in the end Fehervar captain Hari capitalised on a quick counter-attack and decided the match with his second goal of the evening.
