The first period of the pre-playoff decider between Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and the spusu Vienna Capitals saw as many goals as in the first two duels combined - after 20 minutes it was 2:2 in the MET Aréna. The Hungarians first took the lead through Balázs Varga, but Jack Dougherty equalised just a minute and a half later with his first goal of the season. Chase Berger's 2:1 was followed by a goal from Christof Kromp, who buried a rebound before the break. In the middle period, Anze Kuralt just hit the bar, while Rasmus Reijola made a "big save" at the other end. Both teams now concentrated more on defence and the score remained 2:2 after 40 minutes. Fehérvár took command after the restart and in the 42nd minute a shot from Chris Brown rolled over the line for the third lead of the evening. Over the next few minutes, the home side missed several chances to extend it. However, the Hungarians did not allow much more in defence and advanced to the quarter-finals with a 3:2 win.
