After many years in the Liiga and a brief stint in Switzerland, Rasmus Tirronen joined Székesfehérvár in the summer of 2021. The 31-year-old has won twelve of his 17 games so far, but was out injured from early December to mid-January. In the four games so far since his comeback, the Finn has impressed with a save percentage of well over 93 per cent. "I feel like I found my game fairly quickly, unfortunately games have had to been postponed but it worked out in my favor as I got some extra time to work together with Arttu Lipsanen our goalie coach to find my game," Tirronen explains.

As a unit to success
Last week Fehérvár celebrated three home wins. In the victories over Znojmo, Bolzano and Klagenfurt, the two-time Finnish national team player conceded just one goal against each game. With this winning streak, the Hungarians climbed to second place in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. "We played really well as group in all of the games last week, it was huge for us. We had a full lineup for the first time in a long time and that allows us to play a more aggressive game which makes it hard for teams to generate offense against us. It was also important as a team to get wins over teams we hadn’t beaten this season yet," the goalkeeper reports.

With a save percentage of 92 percent, Tirronen is tied for sixth in the league with KAC goalie Sebastian Dahm. The 31-year-old also recorded a spectacular save against the Carinthians on Sunday. Shortly before the end of the overtime he blocked a shot while lying on his back and kept his team in the game. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Tirronen saved all three of the visitors' attempts and helped the "Devils" to a 2:1 victory. "It was one of those battles and throw everything you have in front of the puck and hope to god that the puck hits you. Honestly I made a bad play with the puck to start the whole sequence so at the end I had to just bail myself out of trouble. But even though it’s a nice save we have all of our guys throwing," says the Finn.
