Release from 01.10.2021
League leaders Hydro Fehérvár AV19 won 6:3 at Dornbirn Bulldogs in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League on Friday to start a season with five wins for the first time in their league history. While HC Orli Znojmo scored seven goals in a brilliant final period against Graz, the spusu Vienna Capitals recorded their second shutout in a row in the win in Klagenfurt. In addition, HCB Südtirol Alperia, HC TIWAG Innsbruck and EC Red Bull Salzburg prevailed away from home in overtime.
Znojmo scores seven goals in one period
The 99ers got off to the better start with an Ograjensek goal (7th) in their visit to Znojmo. In the middle period the hosts managed to equalise in the meantime, but Mike Zalewski (36./PP2) put the Styrians in the lead again. But Znojmo turned the game around with a brilliant comeback and seven goals - six of them within eight minutes - in the final period. It was the second time in their league history that the Czechs scored seven goals in one period (after 2014 in the 10:2 against Dornbirn). It was also Znojmo's third home win of the season.
Fehervar sets internal club start record
Dornbirn took the lead twice in their home game against Fehervar, but a brace within 32 seconds put the visitors on the winning track. In the final period, the Hungarians didn't let anything happen and celebrated a 6:3 victory. Head coach Kevin Constantine's team thus extended its lead in the standings. In addition, the Hungarians started the season with five wins for the first time in their league history. Fehérvár's next game is at EC Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday.
Bozen denies Linz first win of the season
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz took the lead three times at home against HCB Südtirol Alperia, but in the end had to admit defeat in their fifth game of the season. Bernard (19./PP) and Mizzi (41.) equalised after two Dzerins goals, then Luca Frigo had the prompt answer to a goal by Brian Lebler. In the last moments of the overtime Angelo Miceli finally scored for the second away win of the Foxes. While Bolzano climbed to second place, the Upper Austrians are still bottom of the table.
Caps take revenge with shutout at KAC
For the second time this season, the EC-KAC and the spusu Vienna Capitals faced each other. The first encounter was dominated by the defending champions with 5:0 and also this time the Klagenfurt team had more of the game - but no goals were scored. The KAC offense often failed because of Bernhard Starkbaum. The Viennese goalkeeper showed some top saves and also had luck on his side with shots from the bar. With his first goal for the Viennese, Luke Moncada gave the visitors the lead in the 35th minute. Nikolai Meyer finally fixed the 2:0 away win for the Caps, who recorded a shutout for the second time in a row, with an empty-netter. It was the third defeat in a row for the KAC.
Innsbruck with second win of the season against Ljubljana
In the first round HC TIWAG Innsbruck won against HK SZ Olimpija - despite being two goals behind - and now it came to the second duel at the Tivoli. Ljubljana took the lead twice through Pance (13./PP) and Music (25./SH), but the Tyroleans equalised each time. The 2:2 by Martin Ulmer was also the first power play goal against the Slovenians. After a Magwood goal (41st) Magovac caused an overtime. In this overtime, the guests again kept the upper hand through a Leavens goal.
Pustertal gets point against Salzburg at home premiere
After four away games, HC Pustertal played their first home game in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League in the new Intercable Arena. Already in the fourth minute Jakob Stukel scored the premiere goal on powerplay. Only a short time later, Emil Kristensen - again on PP - made it 2:0. After a goalless middle period, the Red Bulls were only able to convert their multitude of chances into goals in the final period. After two goals by TJ Brennan, HCP took the lead once again through Deluca. However, Peter Schneider's 3:3 made for overtime, in which Brennan scored his hat-trick.
