Release from 28.12.2021
BEMER VEU Feldkirch pulled off the big surprise of the round in the Alps Hockey League on Tuesday. The second-last-place team from Vorarlberg defeated second-place Ritten 3-2. Tom Barrasso, meanwhile, celebrated a successful season debut in his comeback for Asiago and was able to celebrate a hat trick from Anthony Salinitri in the OT win over Kitzbühel. The team of the hour remains SHC Fassa Falcons, who recorded their seventh win in a row.
Steel Wings win in Merano
As in the last two games before Christmas, HC Meran/o had to admit defeat also in its first game after the holidays. The Steel Wings Linz won 3:1 against the league newcomer after their clear "Boxing Day" defeat. Meran/o still had the better start. However, two goals in the middle third brought the turnaround in favor of the Upper Austrians, who are now in 14th place.
Sallintri hat trick brings OT win for Asiago in Barrasso comeback
In comeback coach Tom Barrasso's first game in charge, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey celebrated a hard-fought overtime win over EC Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. The hosts from Tyrol initially went ahead in the first period. The yellow-reds turned the game around with a hat trick by Anthony Salinitri in the middle period to make it 3-2. The eagles were able to equalize twice more in the final period and thus fight their way into overtime, but Steven Iacobellis ensured the decision there with his fourth scoring point of the evening. For Kitzbühel it was still the first point win in the past four games.
Zeller Eisbären with second win in a row
The EK Zeller Eisbären celebrated an overtime win against HC Gherdeina on December 23 and followed it up five days later against the Broncos. For Sterzing this was already the second defeat after Christmas, who thus continue to lose ground. The hosts took the lead after only 30 seconds, but had to accept the equalizer in the meantime before they gained control of the match. After a strong first 32 minutes, the Polar Bears already led 4:1, the Broncos fought their way back to 3:4 by the 58th minute, but it was not enough for overtime. Zell am See finally prevailed 5:3 and celebrated their first win against the Broncos since 2019.
Feldkirch ends winning streak of Rittner Buam
The penultimate of the Alps Hockey League manages the big surprise of this round in the Alps Hockey League. Already in the past weeks, BEMER VEU Feldkirch showed that they can play with the top teams of the league. On Tuesday, the Vorarlbergers just managed a full success against the second-placed Rittner Buam. After a goalless starting third, the guests from Feldkirch took the lead. The Buam could still equalize in the middle third, but could no longer keep up with the efficiency of the guests in the final period. Feldkirch finally prevailed 3:2 and ended Ritten's four-game winning streak.
Cortina defeats Lustenau
Cortina wins its first game after Christmas, increasing its winning streak to three games. For EHC Lustenau - which remains ahead of Cortina in the standings - it was already the third defeat in a row. The S.G. Cortina Hafro thus managed to take revenge for the defeat suffered in October. Lustenau managed to take the lead in the first period, but a Lacdelli brace in the middle period turned things around. Cortina finally prevailed 3:1 and found the connection to the top-6 teams.
Falcons still on-fire
SHC Fassa Falcons remains the team of the hour. The Falcons already recorded their seventh success in a row and are now finally in the running for the top-6 places in the Alps Hockey League. On Tuesday, Fassa celebrated a 4-0 shutout victory over HC Gherdeina, which has won only one of its past six games. For the Falcons, four different cracks saw them get on the scoresheet.
