The BEMER VEU Feldkirch celebrated a 3:2 home win after overtime in the derby against the EC Bregenzerwald. VEU was still trailing 0:2 until three minutes before the end of the game. The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it suffered their first defeat after nine consecutive victories. In the top game they lost against the the Rittner Buam with 5:1. An unsuccessful debut as Head Coach of the EK Die Zeller Eisbären experienced Martin Ekrt. The Pinzgauer lost at league newcomer HC Meran/o Pircher clearly with 2:7. In the other games S.G. Cortina Hafro and the Steel Wings Linz celebrated victories.
Strong finish brings Feldkirch derby victory
After eight straight losses, the BEMER VEU Feldkirch bounced back with a 3:2 OT derby win over the EC Bregenzerwald. For a long time it didn't look good for the VEU. Until three minutes before the end of the game the guests from Bregenz were in front with 2:0, before Antons Trastasenkovs and Julian Payr could equalize the game within nine seconds. In overtime it was again Latvian Trastasenkovs who scored to give the 16th-placed team their third win of the season. For Bregenzerwald it was the second defeat in a row and the first derby defeat after three wins in a row. In the standings, the ECB is in eighth place.
Finucci brace in victory of Cortina
S.G. Cortina Hafro prevailed with 4:2 at the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. Canadian Carlo Finucci played a major role in the Italians' success with a brace and an assist. The 34-years-old Top Performer of the past AHL week thus always scored at least one point in 16 of 17 season games. While Kitzbühel suffered its seventh defeat in the last eight games, Cortina won its third in a row. After the first period, the home side still led with 2:1, but from the second period on, only Cortina, ranked eleventh in the league, scored. Kitzbühel follows directly behind in twelfth place.
Loss for Martin Ekrt in debut as head coach of Zell am See
There was no sense of achievement for the EK Die Zeller Eisbären neo-head coach Martin Ekrt. The 50-years-old was defeated with 7:2 in his first game with the EKZ at league newcomer HC Meran/o Pircher. The HCM thus confirmed its great form, winning six of the past seven games and is in ninth place in the table. The "Polar Bears" have three points more on their account and are seventh in the table. The man of the match was Nikolai Zherdev. The Russian scored twice in his first game for the South Tyroleans. Until recently, the 37-years-old was under contract with the iClinic Bratislava Capitals in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. Gennady Stolyarov, the second Russian in Merano's squad, also scored a brace.
Steel Wings with narrow home win against Capitals Silver
Canadian Brody Stuart scored twice against the Vienna Capitals Silver to give the Steel Wings Linz their first win after five consecutive defeats. However, the guests from Vienna took the lead through a goal by Martin Kosnar. After two periods, however, the home side already led with 2:1 through Brody Stuart's goal, but Vienna managed to equalize in the 51st minute of the game and had hope again to win their first points win in an away game this season. However, this hope was destroyed three minutes before the end of the game when Niko Lahtinen from Finland scored in the power play the 3:2.
First defeat for Val Gardena after previously nine wins in a row
The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it can lose after all. The "Furie" lost in the top clash against the Rittner Buam with 1:5 and conceded the first defeat after nine wins in a row. The Buam climbed temporarily to second place in the table with their third win in a row. Gherdeina remains fifth in the table. The guests took a 1:0 lead in the 18th minute of the game. After GHE equalized in the meantime, RIT didn't let anything happen in the rest of the match. After two periods the score was already 3:1. In the final period the first AHL champion made it really clear and got the first away win after previously three away defeats in a row.
Sterzing vs. Ritten postponed
The match between the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and the Rittner Buam scheduled for Thursday, December 2nd has been postponed to Sunday, December 26th. The reason for that is no arena availability in Sterzing on December 2nd.
