Fight for sixth place goes in the next round

The year 2019 ends in the Alps Hockey League on Monday with nine games. The fight for the sixth place and thus the fixed qualification for the playoffs goes into the next round. The fifth placed Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and the tenth placed Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan are separated by only four points. At the top of the table, HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana tries to maintain its four-point lead over the Rittner Buam against the SHC Fassa Falcons.

Mo, 30.12.2019, 18:30: Vienna Capitals Silver – EC KAC II

The game day will be opened with the duel of the Vienna Capitals Silver against the EC KAC II. While the Capitals Silver have been without a win for nine games, the KA2 celebrated a surprising 3:2 home victory after overtime against second-placed Rittner Buam on Saturday. It was the first win for Klagenfurt after four defeats in a row. The EC-KAC II won the first duel of both teams in the Alps Hockey League history 3:1 in this season.

In the league table, EKZ are in eleventh place with 38 points. Jesenice follows two places behind with 34 points. The Man-to-Watch is a Slovenian in the dress of Zell am See. Jure Sotlar is in fourth place in the scorer rating with 47 points (14G / 33A). The 26-year-old has scored in the past 14 games.

The EHC Lustenau meets the EC Bregenzerwald in the Vorarlberg derby. It is the second derby in series for the ECB. On Friday, they celebrated a 4:3 home win over the VEU Feldkirch. Lustenau played his last game on Saturday at the EC “Die Adler” Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and won the game with 5:1. In the table, the EHC is fourth, ECB is 15th. Val Gardena, on the other hand, celebrated their first win against the Steel Wings Linz on Saturday after seven defeats in a row. In the table, they occupy the twelfth place. GHE won the first duel this season with 3:2 after overtime. It was the first win ever from Val Gardena over Ritten in the Alps Hockey League.

The third in the table the HC Pustertal Wölfe meets the seventh VEU Feldkirch. The South Tyroleans won the last two games. It were also the first two games under interim coach Matej Hocevar, who temporarily took over the reins after head coach Petri Mattila was fired. Feldkirch was surprisingly beaten by EC Bregenzerwald in the derby on Friday. It was the first loss after three wins in a row. With just 55 goals conceded, Pustertal has the second best defense in the league. Goalkeeper Colin Furlong has a big part in it. With one point more, the Young Bulls are ninth. Wipptal suffered a narrow 3:4 away defeat at HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana on Saturday. Salzburg, however, won the last two games. Overall, they have won seven from their last eight games. In the first duel this season, WSV celebrated a narrow 4:3 away win. It was the Broncos' fifth win over the Red Bull Hockey Juniors in the seventh duel in the Alps Hockey League.

The Tyroleans won with 6:0 in Linz.

Both Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and S.G. Cortina Hafro are in the the fight for a top six place in the table and thus the fixed qualification for the playoffs. Asiago is currently fifth in the table with 43 points. With just one point less, Cortina is in eighth place. Both teams took victories on Saturday. ASH won with 6:5 at SHC Fassa Falcons, SGC won with 3:2-SO at the EK Die Zeller Eisbären. The first meeting this season already proved that both teams are currently equal. In October, Asiago prevailed with a 5:4-OT. It was ASH's fifth win over SGC in the Alps Hockey League in the seventh duel.

League leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana is visiting sixth in the table SHC Fassa Falcons. With five wins in a row, the Slovenes are currently in really strong form. Fassa, however, is currently in a lack of form. After eight wins in a row, they have lost the last three games. Most recently, they received a narrow 5:6 home defeat to Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. Ljubljana is particularly strong in the defensive. With just 50 goals conceded, they have the best defense in the league. Goalkeeper Zan Us leads the Goaltending Statistics with a save percentage of 93.4%. HKO is also at the top in the penalty killing (87,6%). In the first meeting this season Fassa was without a chance. The Slovenes clearly won with 4:0. The league leader has won four of the five duels in the Alps Hockey League so far.
