The EC-KAC tied the best-of-7 final series again on Tuesday night with a 4-1 win in Salzburg, as four of the previous six final encounters have been won by the road team, and set up an all-important Game Seven.

Finals game seven for the sixth time ever
For the sixth time since the league was founded, a finals series will now be decided in a seventh game. The first Finals Game Seven took place in 2005 and went clearly (6-2) to the spusu Vienna Capitals. Incidentally, that was the first home win in this extraordinary series, in which the Caps played the seventh game in their away jerseys.
The other four confrontations were then much closer – all one-goal games, once including overtime. Salzburg was involved in all four series, winning the title in 2011 (vs. KAC) and 2023 (vs. HCB). Klagenfurt has reached three finals with Game Seven, lifting the trophy in 2009 (vs. RBS).

The two participants in this year's final have thus already played a seventh final game against each other twice – and won once each time.

Salzburg faces game seven for the tenth time
EC Red Bull Salzburg is about to play its tenth Game Seven, as they played the first one in the 2009 final series and the last one in the 2024 semifinals against Bolzano. The Red Bulls have won six of the nine showdowns. Since the league was founded, Klagenfurt has played six all-decisive encounters, with the Rotjacken only managed to win in 2009.

Raffl ahead of his seventh game seven
Thomas Raffl is the player with the most Game Seven experience on Friday: EC Red Bull Salzburg’s captain has already played a seventh game six times. His teammate Peter Hochkofler has five, Mario Huber and Florian Baltram four. At the EC-KAC, Thomas Hundertpfund (5) has the most Game Seven experience, Raphael Herburger has four appearances.

The only current KAC player to have scored a goal in a seventh game is Lukas Haudum. For the Red Bulls, Raffl and Nicolai Meyer have each scored twice from the existing squad, while Bourke, Nissner and Thaler have scored once.

Herburger back in KAC’s lineup
Raphael Herburger returns to the EC-KAC lineup for game seven. The forward missed Tuesday's game due to the birth of his first child. His usual line-mate Niki Kraus is currently ill and therefore had to skip training on Thursday, but he should be fit and ready to play Friday night.
