Finals remake on Sunday | Three more teams enter the new season

On Sunday, the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga continues with last year’s finals remake. Runner-up spusu Vienna Capitals hosts reigning champion EC-KAC. The game will be broadcasted live on Servus Hockey Night. Further, the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz, the EC Panaceo VSV and the HC Orli Znojmo have their opener ahead, and with the Dornbirn Bulldogs and the EC Red Bull Salzburg two winning teams of the first round meet each other.

Four facts ahead of second game day:

  • With the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz, the EC Panaceo VSV and the HC Orli Znojmo the remaining three participants play their opening game.
  • Last year’s finals remake will be broadcasted live on Servus Hockey Night.
  • The HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie“ is free of play.

  • With the Dornbirn Bulldogs and the EC Red Bull Salzburg meeting each other, two successful teams of the first game day crosses sticks. While the Vorarlberg side snatched up a tight overtime road win in the “West-Derby”, the Red Bulls celebrated a clear-cut win at Bolzano.
  • In both teams the new arrivals convinced, as Juhani Tamminen and Emilio Romig scored for the Bulldogs, and Chad Kolarik made a brace for Salzburg.
  • Both teams meet for the 45th time overall, with the Red Bulls winning 32 times.
  • In Dornbirn Salzburg has the best road win percentage available, won 69% of their away games.
  • Past season both teams got two wins each.
  • Brandan Mikkelson (RBS) is again not available.

  • After being free of play on Friday, the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz opens its new season at Hydro Fehérvár AV19.
  • The Hungarianteam was Erste Bank Eishockey Liga’s lone team remaining goalless on first game day, suffering a 0:5 defeat at Klagenfurt.
  • After Linz won the first three meetings past season, Fehérvár got the last one.
  • Both teams meet each other for the 59th time, with the Hungarians winning 14 out of 29 home games so far.
  • Preseason BWL: The Upper Austrians won two out of six scrimmages (Budweis, Straubing).
  • In Fehérvár’s first home game, new arrival Mike Ouzas faces his former team, as the netminder had six successful seasons in Linz.
  • Linz’ Stefan Gaffal heads into his 200th regular season game in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga.

  • On the second game day the first finals remake of the season takes place in Vienna, as the Capitals take on reigning champion EC-KAC, which grabbed the title in past season’s “best-of-7”-finals series to get the 31st championship.
  • The game will be broadcasted live on Servus Hockey Night.
  • While the champions got off a perfect season-start, outclassing Fehérvár 5:0, the Capitals let slip away a 1:0 lead in Graz, losing 1:2 after overtime.
  • With six victories each, both teams met each other twelve times past season.
  • While Klagenfurt made minor roster updates, the Viennese lost nine players of last season.
  • Since 2003-04 season, these two teams met 117 times, with EC-KAC taking 60 wins. On the road the “Rotjacken” lost nine out of the past eleven games in Vienna.
  • Due to injuries Rafael Rotter (VIC), Niki Kraus and Lukas Haudum (both KAC) will miss the game.

  • The EC Panaceo VSV opens the new season with a home game against HCB Südtirol Alperia, after the South Tyrolean lost their first game at home 1:5 vs. Salzburg.
  • With 21 times the home team taking the win, the teams head into their 33rd duel.
  • There were only home wins past season too.
  • HCB took the most penalties on the first game day (18 minutes).
  • Preseason VSV: With eight games played, Villach gained the most experience of all Erste Bank Eishockey Liga teams during preseason, losing only once.
  • Angelo Miceli misses the second game too.

  • After a tight overtime win in the opener, the Moser Medical Graz99ers travel to HC Orli Znojmo. The Czech side plays its first game of the season.
  • Both teams face each other for the 39th time. Twelve out of 19 games in Czech Republic were won by teams leading after the first frame.
  • G99 won three out of four games past season.
  • Preseason ZNO: The “eagles” got three out of six preseason wins.
  • While Graz still misses Oliver Setzinger, recent new arrival Greg Squires will make his debut.
