FISG hires Mike Keenan as new national team head coach

The Italian Ice Hockey Federation has presented Mike Keenan as its new head coach for the men's team, as the now 72-year-old takes over from Greg Ireland. The new assistant coach is Mike Pelino.

After a "long selection process", Mike Keenan has been appointed as the new national team coach of the Italian men's ice hockey team. For the experienced Canadian it is the first signing with a European federation, about 30 years ago he last coached the selection of his home country, with which he won World Championship in 1993. Keenan celebrated his greatest successes at club level, winning both the Stanley Cup (1994 with the New York Rangers) in the NHL and the Gagarin Cup (2014 with Metallurg Magnitogorsk) in the KHL.

Mike Pelino has been named Keenan's assistant coach. The 62-year-old Canadian most recently served in the same position for various KHL teams.
