Extremely exciting games were played in the 15th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League. Five of the six games were decided with only one goal difference. Three matches even went into overtime or shootout. For the first time in October, the spusu Vienna Capitals did not win a point. The Viennese team lost at the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV with 3:4. In the Tyrolean derby the HCB Südtirol Alperia kept the upper hand at the HC TIWAG Innsbruck with 6:5/OT. The EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a narrow 4:3/SO victory at the EC-KAC. Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey was surprisingly successful after overtime over runner-up Hydro Fehérvár AV19. In the ICE premiere match between the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg and the Moser Medical Graz99ers, the guests from Graz prevailed 2:1. The "clearest" victory of the evening was provided by the HC Pustertal over the HK SZ Olimpija (4:2).
Strong October of the Capitals ends with a defeat
In the eighth game in October, the spusu Vienna Capitals failed to pick up a point for the first time. At EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV the fifth in the table lost 3:4. For the VSV it was the first win after three defeats in a row before. The "Eagles" are in sixth place in the table. In an extremely even and competitive match, the home side took a 2:0 lead with a double strike within 13 seconds in the seventh minute. Just before the break, the Capitals needed only 37 seconds to equalize the score. After Anthony Luciani scored his second goal for the VSV in the middle period to make it 3:2, Rafael Rotter equalized again right at the start of the final period. The score remained 3:3 until four and a half minutes before the end of the game, when Simon Despres scored his second goal of the season in the power play to decide the game in favor of the home side.
Red Bulls win in the shootout
Also with 4:3, but after a shootout, the EC Red Bull Salzburg kept the upper hand at the EC-KAC and thus also took revenge for the 4:6 home defeat in the first season duel. The home side from Klagenfurt had a much better start and already led 2:0 after 22 minutes. However, the visitors then got better and better into the game and equalized 2:2 five minutes before the end of the second period. In the final period, Mario Huber even managed to give the reigning champions the lead for a while, but just 27 seconds after conceding the goal, the KAC equalized again through Rok Ticar. Finally, it went into the shootout, in which only Ali Wukouvits was able to convert his penalty. For the Red Bulls it was already the fourth win in a row. They are in second place in the standings. KAC is eighth in the table.
Graz narrowly wins against Pioneers
In the first duel between the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg and the Moser Medical Graz99ers, the visitors narrowly prevailed 2:1. For Graz, who fell behind early in the game, it was the second win in a row. The Pioneers conceded their second loss in a row. The 99ers turned the game around in the middle third with goals from Petr Kolouch (28.) and Victor Granholm (36./PP1). As ninth in the table, the 99ers are currently four points ahead of the eleventh place and thus the first place, which is not enough for the pre-playoffs.
Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey celebrated a surprising 2:1 home win after overtime over runner-up Hydro Fehérvár AV19. The favorites from Hungary took the lead in the 31st minute through Brett Findlay. However, Fehérvár did not manage any further goals. With 29 saves, ASH goalkeeper Gianluca Vallini also distinguished himself several times. Asiago finally tied the game with Marek Vankus five and a half minutes before the end of the game. The game-winner was scored by Randal Gazzola after one and a half minutes in overtime. For the Italians it was the first win after three defeats in a row. Fehérvár conceded the second overtime defeat in a row.
Bolzano wins Tyrol derby in overtime
As expected, the Tyrol derby developed into a high-scoring game. Because with the HC TIWAG Innsbruck and league leader HCB Südtirol Alperia the two offensively strongest teams of the entire league faced each other. In the end, Bolzano prevailed 6:5 in overtime. The visitors from South Tyrol already led 2:0 after 15 minutes and were 3:1 ahead after 24 minutes. After that, however, Innsbruck got into the game better and better and even managed to turn the game around completely within five minutes. Brady Shaw was successful twice, once in the power play. From 3:3 onwards, all the remaining five goals of the regular playing time were scored in the power play. Until two minutes before the end of the game, the home side was still leading 5:4, before Christian Thomas equalized with his ninth goal of the season. In overtime, it was Ryan Culkin who scored with 47 seconds left to decide the game in favor of the Foxes. In the second duel of the season, it was the second win for Bolzano, which is now nine points ahead of fourth-placed Innsbruck in the standings.
The second South Tyrolean team, HC Pustertal, was also successful. The "Wolves" prevailed at home against HK SZ Olimpija with 4:2 and thus provided the "clearest" victory of the evening. The home team already led 3:0 after 30 minutes, but the visitors from Slovenia scored two goals before Filip Ahl scored an empty net one minute before the end for the final decision in favor of the team from Bruneck. For Pustertal, which is eleventh in the table, it was the third win from the last four games and the second victory over Olimpija within a week. The Slovenians, who were defeated for the third time in a row, are immediately ahead of the "Wolves" in tenth place in the table.
