The final week of the regular season in the win2day ICE Hockey League has begun. On Wednesday, five games of Round 50 – the third-to-last round – are on the schedule. Among others seventh-placed Vienna Capitals face second-placed Moser Medical Graz99ers. League leaders EC-KAC host HC TIWAG Innsbruck, while third-placed EC Red Bull Salzburg travel to tenth-placed Hydro Fehérvár AV19. The remaining fixtures see Olimpija Ljubljana face HCB Südtirol Alperia and the Pioneers Vorarlberg take on HC Falkensteiner Pustertal.

In addition, free from play EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV announced the signing of Michael Kernberg. Due to league regulations (“Protected List”), the defenseman will officially join VSV on March 2, after the conclusion of the regular season. The same applies to goaltender Dustin Tokarski, who will replace injured starting goalie Lukaš Horak at Olimpija Ljubljana. The former NHL netminder, who has appeared in 91 NHL games, moves to Slovenia from Löwen Frankfurt.

The Vienna Capitals host the Moser Medical Graz99ers. With three rounds remaining, Graz are still in the race for first place in the regular season and are also aiming to secure second place and qualification for the Champions Hockey League. They currently trail league leaders EC-KAC by just one point and already hold a seven-point advantage over fourth-placed Bolzano. Third-placed Salzburg can no longer overtake the 99ers, as the Red Bulls are six points behind with only two games remaining and have also lost the head-to-head tiebreaker against Graz. The Capitals sit in seventh place and have already secured a spot in the pre-playoffs, with home-ice advantage within reach. Their lead over ninth-placed Linz stands at five points. Most recently, Vienna earned a 4–1 road win in Linz, one of three victories in their last five games. At home, they have won their last four matches in a row. Graz, meanwhile, came from behind to defeat EC-KAC 4–2 at home after trailing 0–2. It marked their fifth win in the last six games. The 99ers have won all three previous meetings with the Capitals this season.

KAC aiming to take another step toward first place against Innsbruck
With three rounds to go, league leaders EC-KAC hold only a one-point advantage over Graz after suffering a 2–4 defeat in Styria last Sunday. It was the first loss for KAC following three consecutive home wins. Against bottom-placed HC TIWAG Innsbruck, another home victory is firmly on the agenda. The Tyroleans have gone winless in their last seven games and were outmatched in two of their three meetings with KAC this season. However, they did record a surprising 9–6 home win in late November.

Salzburg with away game in Fehérvár
Third-placed EC Red Bull Salzburg can no longer improve their position in the standings but must defend third place against fourth-placed Bolzano. The South Tyroleans trail the Red Bulls by just one point and still have one game in hand. On Wednesday, the defending champions visit tenth-placed Hydro Fehérvár AV19. The Hungarian side also have plenty at stake, sitting only one point ahead of eleventh-placed Budapest, whom they will face on the final matchday. Last weekend, Fehérvár returned empty-handed from their road trip to Italy, while Salzburg played two overtime games – losing to Villach and defeating Pustertal. Salzburg have won two of the three season meetings so far, though Fehérvár claimed the first clash in Hungary 3–2.

Bolzano visit Ljubljana
A direct clash between neighboring teams in the standings takes place as fifth-placed Olimpija Ljubljana host fourth-placed HCB Südtirol Alperia. Bolzano still have control of their fate in the race for third place and even retain a slim chance of finishing second. Ljubljana trail the South Tyroleans by four points and have only two games remaining. Bolzano are in strong form, having won three straight games after previously suffering two consecutive losses. Ljubljana have also won three of their last five matches. The first meeting in Slovenia ended in a 4–1 home win for Ljubljana, while both games in Bolzano were clearly decided in favor of the home side (4–1, 4–2).

Ahead of their game against Bolzano, Olimpija Ljubljana has strengthened its goaltending position for the upcoming playoffs by signing Dustin Tokarski. The Canadian will replace injured starting goalie Lukaš Horak. Tokarski has played a total of 91 NHL games for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina Hurricanes. This season, he was under contract with DEL club Löwen Frankfurt.

Pustertal visit Vorarlberg
In the fifth game of the day, the Pioneers Vorarlberg host HC Falkensteiner Pustertal. The sixth-placed South Tyroleans can keep the pressure on fifth-placed Ljubljana with a win, as they currently trail by just three points and still have one game in hand. The Pioneers sit twelfth and will finish the regular season in that position. They have gone winless in their last six games, while Pustertal have recorded two wins from their last five outings. Last Sunday, the Pioneers narrowly lost 1–2 in overtime in Salzburg. The first two meetings this season were clear victories for Pustertal, but the most recent encounter saw Vorarlberg prevail 6–5 on the road after a shootout.
