On the third gameday of the Alps Hockey League five teams remained undefeated. WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan already celebrated their third victory and remain championship leader. HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, VEU Feldkirch, EC "Die Adler" Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and S.G. Cortina Hafro won their second game and thus remain undefeated. In the Vorarlberg derby between the EC Bregenzerwald and the EHC Lustenau the EHC could enter a clear 9:2 away win. With 8:3 HC Gherdeina valgardena.it won also clearly against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. In the South Tyrol derby, the HC Pustertal won 2:1 after shootout against the Rittner Buam and celebrated their first victory.
Broncos claim the top of the league
With 4:3, WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan achieved a narrow away win at the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. It was a game with high tension from the beginning. In total the lead changed four times during the game. The deciding goal the Broncos shot about five minutes before the end of the game by Mathieu Lemay. The WSV remain undefeated at the top of the league table. For the young bulls it was the second defeat in the third game.
Jesenice celebrates home victory
HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice celebrated a clear victory against SHC Fassa Falcons at the start of the second round. The Slovenians won 4:2 in front of the home crowd. For the past three seasons, Fassa has not been able to win a game against Jesenice, and this trend continues for the time being in the new season. Already in the second minute Sersen scored the first goal for the Slovenes. It was the only goal of the first perod. Subsequently, the Italians managed to make the game at eye level. In minute 29 they even shot the equalizer. Then Jesenice put on a gear again and was able to score another three goals in the second half of the second period. In the final period Fassa was equal again and could even win the period with 1:0.
Second victory for Kitzbühel
The EC "Die Adler" Stadtwerke Kitzbühel cheered a 6:0 away win at Steel Wings Linz and celebrated their second win of the season after the 2:1 opening victory against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. For the league rookie from Linz, however, it was the second defeat in the second game. Again, they could not score a single goal, which is why they still have to wait for the first goal in their young Alps Hockey League history. In the first two periods the Stahlstädter could make the game halfway balanced. The Tyroleans led 2:0 after 40 minutes. In the final period Kitzbühel scored another four goals and is now in second place in the league table.
Lustenau outclasses Bregenzerwald in the derby
In front of 1151 spectators the EHC Lustenau managed a clear 9:2 away win at the EC Bregenzerwald. For Lustenau it was the first victory in this Alps Hockey League season. Already after the first period it was clear who will emerge as Derby winner. Lustenau led 5:0 after the first 20 minutes. Especially Colin Long shined. The 30-year-old American was involved in four of the five goals in the first period. In the second and third period ECB was able to put up some resistance and scored two goals. The 9:2 victory of the EHC was the second-highest victory in the history of the AHL against Bregenzerwald. Only on 22.10.2016 Lustenau could achieve a higher victory with a 10:3.
Feldkirch remains unbeaten too
The VEU Feldkirch made it two from two, after a 4:2 road win at EC-KAC II, which suffered its first defeat in the running Alps Hockey League season. Overall, the Vorarlberg side grabbed its fourth straight victory in Klagenfurt. The game was tied at one after the first frame, as Robin Soudek sent the road team on winning ways twelve seconds left in the middle period. Steven Birnstill and again Soudek, who had two assists too, increased the lead for the VEU and made the game save later in the last. Philipp Kreuzer, who had two points in the end, rounded off the score in the 58th minute.
Pustertal beats Ritten in shootout
In the South Tyrol derby between the Rittner Buam and the HC Pustertal Wölfe, the guests celebrated an important victory. With 2:1 after shootout, the "wolves" won in Ritten and thus celebrated the first victory of the season. 884 spectators saw a duel at eye level. HCP took the lead in the 29th minute through Tommasso Traversa. In the 50th minute Philipp Pechlaner was able to compensate for the "Buam". No goals in the remaining ten minutes of play and also not in overtime forced the first shootout of the young AHL season. In this John Lewis realised the decisive penalty.
Cortina wins in overtime
With a 3:2 overtime victory S.G. Cortina Hafro enter the second victory in the second game. For the EK The Zeller Eisbären it was the second defeat in the second game. The guests from Austria had the better start. After the first period, the polar bears led 2:0. In the second period Cortina ended up better in the game and won it 2:0. The third period ended goalless, which is why it went into the extra session. After one minute and three seconds Remy Giftopoulos scored for Cortina and ended the game.
Gherdeina outclasses Asiago
The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated a clear-cut win in the second round of Alps Hockey League, as the South Tyrolean declassed former champions Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 8:3 and grabbed their first season win. Three straight goals – thanks to Ondrej Nedved, Michael Sullmann-Pilser and Simon Pitschieler – gave the home team a great start into the game. Till halfway through the second Gherdeina doubled up and decided the game on an early stage. Then Marco Rosa pulled one back for Asiago, as the home team again lit the lamp twice during the final minutes of the second. With two goals in the last frame the road team rounded off the score.
