Four ICE teams celebrate preseason wins on Sunday

Asiago Hockey claimed victory at the Riwega Cup in Neumarkt on Sunday with their second win in 24 hours. While EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV remains unbeaten in the preseason (4:1 in Landshut), Steinbach Black Wings Linz and Pioneers Vorarlberg also celebrated victories over German clubs. The spusu Vienna Capitals and HC TIWAG Innsbruck, on the other hand, suffered defeats.

24 hours after the victory over Deggendorf, Asiago had to face the hosts Unterland Cavaliers in the Riwega Cup in Neumarkt. The ICE representative - without Gazzola, Fram, Rockwood, Rapuzzi, Pork and Rigoni in this game - took the lead in the eleventh minute with a powerplay goal from Cairns. In the middle frame, the visitors pulled away to 4:0, also thanks to an Ierullo brace. In the end, Asiago celebrated the tournament victory with a 5:1 win over the team from the Alps Hockey League.

Villach, Linz and Pioneers successful
After the shootout victory in Bruneck, VSV also won its second preseason game. The Carinthians laid the foundation for their 4:1 victory in Landshut in a strong opening phase. Lindner put the visitors ahead after 30 seconds, and further goals from Tschurnig and Lanzinger gave Villach a 3:0 lead after five minutes. The fourth VSV goal was scored by Hancock on power play.

The first away match of the new season took the Steinbach Black Wings to Nuremberg on Sunday afternoon. Without six regular players, the Upper Austrians won 4:1. After the home side scored the only goal in the first period, Julian Pusnik equalised in the middle period. In the final phase, the visitors secured their second win in the third test with goals from Scheid (54th), Knott (56th) and Neubauer (59th).

The Pioneers Vorarlberg won a test in Kaufbeuren 4:1. The visitors laid the foundation for the victory in a brilliant opening period with goals from Lucas Sowder, Oliver Cooper and David Keefer. The rest of the game was dominated by numerous penalties. Lucas Sowder scored his second goal in the final period to decide the game.

Defeats for Vienna and Innsbruck
One day after their 5:2 win against the Schwenninger Wild Wings, the spusu Vienna Capitals were beaten 3:1 by the Grizzlys Wolfsburg. Ex-Caps forward Darren Archibald gave the DEL team a 2:0 lead in the middle period, but Aljaž Predan reduced the deficit with his first goal for the Viennese team. Wolfsburg decided the game with an empty-netter in the final period.

HC TIWAG Innsbruck showed strong improvement at times in their second game at the Vinschgau Cup, but lost 2:4 against Iserlohn despite leading by two goals. Grasso (20th/PP) and Schintler (24th) scored for the Tyroleans, while the DEL club managed to get on the scoreboard in the middle period. In the third period, the Germans finally turned the game in their favour with three goals within four minutes.
