Zell gives up next to nothing
After a lopsided home loss to Asiago on opening night, the Zell squad found its footing, above all on defense. In three of its next four games it allowed just one goal, and two of the wins came on the road. Most recently, goaltender Alexander Schmidt stopped 31 of 32 shots in the home win over Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. Up front, Zan Jezovsek leads the way. The winger has six goals and four assists through five games.

Jesenice hands the leaders their only loss
Jesenice also opened with a narrow road loss in Sisak. The response came in their first home game: a 7-2 win over Asiago, still the leaders' only loss of the season. Since then the team has scored consistently, with 20 goals across its four wins. The scoring is spread around. Robert Sabolic has nine points, while Rok Kapel, Erik Svetina and Zan Spari Leben have eight apiece.

How long will the streaks last?
The similarities go beyond the standings: both teams allowed exactly seven goals during their four wins. The coming days will show whether the streaks hold. Jesenice visit Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan on Thursday and host Sportivi Ghiaccio Cortina on Saturday. Zell travel to Hockey Unterland Cavaliers on Saturday. On October 13, the two streaking teams meet head-to-head in Zell am See.
