Frontrunner keeps distance to runner-up

In the top game of the 22nd round the Vienna Capitals won against runner-up EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz with 4:3. With that win the leader of the league increases the gap to the chasing pack.

Both teams started with a quick and attractive ice hockey game. Nikolaus Hartl had the first big chance in the game, but missed his opportunity. The Capitals took more and more the control and put a lot of pressure towards Michael Ouzas and the Black Wings Defense. The guests fired 17 shots onto the goal, the hosts only three times.

In the second period the Black Wings found their rhythm and challenged the Capitals on an even level. Both teams created many chances, but the first goal was only celebrated in the 33rd minute. Aaron Brocklehurst placed a shot between the crossbar and the back of Ouzas into the goal. The Black Wings still played with high intensity and created good chances in offense. Three minutes before the end of the second period Brial Lebler scored after an assist of Dan DaSilva. But the answer oft he Caps came immediatly: Rafael Rotter recaptured the lead aft an attractive combination. Sill in the second the Black Wings succeeded with the equalizer again. Fabio Hofer scored in powerplay.

Linz continued in the final period like they ended the third. Jacob Dowell captured  in powerplay the lead for the Black Wings for the first time of the evening. But the Caps had the right answer again. It was again Rafael Rotter who reacted the quickest in a chaotic situation and tied the game. The decision of the game was found by Nikolaus Hartl who scored the game winning goal in the 53rd minute.
