The South Tyrol derby between the Rittner Buam SkyAlps and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it will take place for the second time this season. In the first meeting on October 14, Ritten celebrated a clear 5–1 home win. Currently, both teams are in a slump: Ritten have lost their last five games, while Gherdeina have suffered six defeats in their last seven outings. Both teams also lost midweek in Asiago – Gherdeina 1–5 and Ritten 2–4. Curiously, both sides showed weaknesses on the powerplay: Gherdeina conceded three shorthanded goals, while Ritten allowed two. In the standings, it’s the seventh-ranked team (RIT) versus the ninth (GHE).

Second meeting between Sisak and Merano in eight days
League leaders KHL Sisak and HC Meran/o Pircher face each other for the second time within eight days. Last Friday, Merano claimed a surprisingly clear 4–0 home win. That was the South Tyrolean side’s last game, while Sisak have played twice since then – a 2–3 shootout loss in Cortina followed by a 4–3 home win over Unterland. Meran, however, are already back in action on Friday in Jesenice, meaning they will play two games within 24 hours. In the standings, Sisak hold a three-point lead over their closest pursuer, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, though they have played two more games.

Titleholders Zell am See host in-form Asiago
A showdown is expected when defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären host HC Migross Asiago. The visitors from Italy have won their last five games in a row and currently sit fifth in the standings – right behind the Polar Bears, who hold fourth place with a one-point lead over Asiago. In the first meeting of the season, played in Asiago, Zell am See celebrated a narrow 4–3 road win. The Pinzgau side are currently riding a two-game winning streak but have lost their last two home games. Asiago, meanwhile, have won three of their last five away matches.

Kitzbühel aiming for fifth straight win
Like Asiago, third-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel are also on a four-game winning streak. On Thursday, the Eagles secured a tight 2–1 overtime win against Vipiteno. With 29 points, the Tyroleans sit six points behind the league leaders. Opponent HDD Jesenice can only dream of such heights at the moment: the runners-up from last season sit in twelfth place with 15 points ahead of their Friday game against Merano, though they have won three of their last five games. In the first season meeting with Kitzbühel, Jesenice fell 3–4 in overtime at home despite holding a 3–1 lead.

Sterzing looking to end losing streak
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan haven’t won a game since October 23 – a stretch of seven matches. On Thursday, the eleventh-placed team at least managed to earn a point in a 1–2 OT loss in Kitzbühel. The Broncos last faced EC Bregenzerwald on November 5 and, despite taking a 1–0 lead, fell 1–3. For in-form Bregenzerwald, it was their fifth straight win, followed by a sixth in Cortina. Their next match, however, resulted in a heavy 0–7 home defeat to Zell am See – their first loss since October 17. The Vorarlberg side still hold a strong sixth-place position in the standings.

Unterland takes on Salzburg
In the sixth game of the day, bottom-ranked Hockey Unterland Cavaliers face second-placed Red Bull Hockey Juniors. For the Salzburg-based team, it will be their first match since November 1. The Juniors have won eight of their last ten games and remain only three points behind league leaders Sisak – with two games in hand. Unterland, meanwhile, have won just one of their last ten outings. In the first season meeting in Salzburg, the South Tyrolean side fell 1–3.

Cortina competing in the Continental Cup
From Friday to Sunday, S.G. Cortina will represent the Alps Hockey League in the second Round of the Continental Cup, hosted in Angers, France. The Italian side will face Angers Ducs (FRA), HK Mogo (LAT), and ACS Gyergyoi HK (ROU). Cortina will play each opponent once, and a top-two finish in the group would secure a spot in the Final Tournament, set to take place from January 14 to 17 in Nottingham (GBR).
