The EC Red Bull Salzburg and the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV open the new year in the win2day ICE Hockey League live on PULS 24. In the top match of the 35th round, it comes to a neighborhood duel in the standings. Salzburg is in third place with 58 points. Villach follows in fourth place with 56 points. In the last game of the old year, the Eagles conceded a 2:5 home defeat against Bolzano. For the VSV it was already the third home defeat in a row. With four losses in a row and a goal difference of 2:15, the Moser Medical Graz99ers are currently in bad shape. In the table, the Styrians are only in eleventh place and thus currently one place and point outside the pre-playoffs. Opponent Hydro Fehérvár AV19 conceded a clear 1:4 home defeat against Vienna at the end of 2022. It was their first defeat after previously winning two in a row. As seventh in the table, last year's finalist is currently two points behind the KAC and the top six. The Hungarians will be facing the league's weakest team at home when they visit Graz. The 99ers have only won four of their 15 home games. The last time they were victorious in front of their home crowd was on November 27th. The first home match against Fehérvár was won by the Styrians with 1:0/SO. Outstanding player was 99ers goalkeeper Christian Engstrand with 50 saves. For the Swede it was one of already four shutouts this season. Graz also won one of the other two duels this season.

The HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie starts 2023 at the top of the table. The Tyroleans currently have a five-point lead over first-pursuer Bolzano and are thirteen points ahead of fifth-place Steinbach Black Wings Linz. However, the Upper Austrians have also played two games less than the Innsbruck team. With three wins in a row and a total of six wins from the past seven games, HCI travels to Linz in top shape. In the last game of the old year, they won against the Pioneers Vorarlberg 5:1. Jamal Watson scored his second consecutive brace. In the past five games BWL celebrated four wins and never conceded more than two goals. In the first two duels of the season with Innsbruck, Linz clearly retained the upper hand with 4:1 and 5:2.

The duel Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey against HK SZ Olimpija is about important points in the fight for the pre-playoffs. The league newcomer from Italy worked its way up to the ninth place in the standings thanks to recent good results, at least one point in each of the last four games, and now has a six-point lead over Olimpija, which is only in twelfth place. The Slovenians have been waiting eight games for a win. The last time they were victorious was on December 2nd. The Dragons have not won any of their last nine away games. Their last win away from home was on October 21st in Graz. Olimpija was also defeated in the first ICE duel in Asiago (3:5). Also both meetings in Ljubljana went to the team from Veneto (5:2 & 2:1), which is why the clash on New Year's Day is already the last season duel between ASH and HKO for the time being.
