Strong PP puts Vienna on track
The spusu Vienna Capitals opened their "best-of-7" quarterfinal series against Hydro Fehérvár AV19 with a 6:1 clear-cut victory. After the Viennese survived a strong first period of the guests from Hungary, they got the game under control thanks to efficient powerplay: Ty Loney (14./PP1) and Nikolaus Hartl (23./PP1) both scored 5 on 4. After Istvan Bartalis (25./PP1) halved the deficit, Loney restored the two-goal lead after a weak turnover by Fehérvár. In the final period, first Rafael Rotter (43.) completed a perfect counterattack in his 100th playoff game, then Ali Wukovits (53.) and Julian Großlercher (59.) increased the lead.

Clear playoff opening win for Klagenfurt
The EC-KAC (#2) clearly dominated the first quarterfinal against EC GRAND Immo VSV (#8) with 5:1. The "Rotjacken" thus also walked off the ice as winners in the eleventh consecutive home derby. They got off a great start: Samuel Witting (5.), who played his first playoff game, opened the scoring with a rich shot after a breakaway - only 43 seconds later he gave the primary assist for 2:0 by Johannes Bischofberger. Villach came close with a goal by Martin Ulmer (28.), but took too many penalties until the end. Klagenfurt kept its nerves and capitalized on the powerplay occasions three times: Matt Fraser (34./PP2 and 51./PP2) and Lukas Haudum (35./PP1) ensured a clear opening victory for the record champion.

Dornbirn upsets with shutout at Salzburg
The Dornbirn Bulldogs (#6) managed the "break" right at the start of the quarterfinal series against EC Red Bull Salzburg (#3). The team from Vorarlberg celebrated a 2:0 shutout victory on the road. With 37 saves, goalie Oskar Östlund remained without a goal against for only the second time this season. Dornbirn, who also offered perfect penalty killing, celebrated their first win of the season over Salzburg. Without the suspended Andrew Yogan, Anthony Luciani, another top scorer of the Bulldogs, was responsible for their lead: "Coast to Coast" he scored his tenth goal in the 15th game. Finally, Daniel Woger (58.) ensured the decision, beating JP Lamoureux with a blueliner.

Bratislava deflates Bolzano
The iClinic Bratislava Capitals (#7) deflated regular season champion HCB Südtirol Alperia (#1) in their playoff opener, earning a 2:1 win in Bolzano. The newcomer recorded a success in its very first playoff game. Goalie Jared Coreau in particular gave the Slovaks a lot - he stopped 22 shots on goal in the first period. After the first 20 minutes, the guests were also already in the lead thanks to a goal by Maxime Fortier (14.). Sergey Kostsitsyn (21.) doubled the lead right after the break and the two-goal lead should be enough in the end: Since Coreau was only beaten by Dustin Gazley (31./PP1), in the end with 37 saves just barely his third ICE shutout.
