Gherdeina takes series lead with overtime road win

HC Gherdeina valgardena.it defeated the Red Bull Hockey Juniors 3–2 in overtime in Game 3 of the quarterfinals. The South Tyroleans became the first team in the series to win on the road and now lead the best-of-seven series 2–1. Vlastimil Dostalek scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute, after the Juniors had tied the game with just seven seconds left in regulation.

After a scoreless opening period, Dmitry Vozovik put the visitors in front at the midway point of the game. Just seven minutes later, Davide Schiavone doubled the lead to 2–0 on the power play. The score remained unchanged until two minutes before the end of the third period, when Jesse Juhola cut the deficit for the Juniors – also with a man advantage. With one minute remaining, Salzburg was awarded another power play and capitalized once again: Florian Lanzinger scored the 2–2 equalizer with just seven seconds left on the clock, forcing overtime.

The visitors started overtime with a power play and quickly took advantage. After only 83 seconds, Vlastimil Dostalek found the puck in front of the net and buried it for the 3–2 winner. Gherdeina now leads the series 2–1, with all three games decided by just one goal. Game 4 will take place on Tuesday in Val Gardena.
