Giftopoulos brace in Cortina’s upset win

With a brace including game-winner, Remy Giftopoulos gave his S.G. Cortina Hafro a surprising 3-2 home win after overtime against Alps Hockey League leaders HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana. The second Slovenian participant HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice got its eighth win in a row with a 2-1 road win over EC-KAC II and moved closer to the leading duo in the standings.

Cortina defeats leader after overtime
S.G. Cortina Hafro defeated league leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana 3-2 after overtime. It was the fourth consecutive home win for seventh-placed Cortina. It took revenge for the clear 3-7 defeat in the first season duel, celebrated its third victory over the "Dragons" overall. Right in the first power play Remy Giftopoulos (6.) netted for the home team's lead. Mike Cazzola, earlier with the primary assist, doubled in the 15th minute. Cortina goalkeeper Marco De Filippo Roia - who finished with a save percentage of 94.6% - then had his hands full to secure the overtime. Luka Ulamec (25.) and Tadej Cimzar (58.) fixed the point for Ljubljana. In overtime, however, Giftopoulos put the lid on after just 21 seconds, scoring twice for the sixth time this season and for the second time in a row.

Jesenice cheers eighth straight win
HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice has further reduced its gap to the top duo in the Alps Hockey League. The Slovenians celebrated a 2-1 road win at EC-KAC II, thus managing the preliminary season sweep over the "Rotjacken" and picking up their eighth win in a row. Klagenfurt lost also in the seventh consecutive game against the Slovenians. Stojan Nejc gave the guests the lead after just 137 seconds. This was then leveled early in the middle period by Markus Pirmann (23./PP1), who thus also scored in his eighth consecutive game. The guests were later rewarded by Blaz Tomazevic's game-winner (46.) for a strong offensive performance.
