Graz makes big step towards playoffs

Thanks to a solid defense the leading duo EC Red Bull Salzburg and spusu Vienna Capitals got home wins on Sunday. While Moser Medical Graz99ers made a big step towards Pick Round with their sixth successive win, EC Panaceo VSV prolonged their home winning streak.

Youngster Paul Huber leads Salzburg to win
On Sunday EC Red Bull Salzburg beat EC-KAC 4:1 in the 5000th game of Erste Bank Eishockey Liga on home ice. After a goalless first, youngster Paul Huber opened the scoring. After the equalizer from KAC defender Petter Hansson - it was his first goal in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga - it was again Paul huber, who found Peter Hochkofler with a great pass, 2:1. Former NHL player Connor Brickley added a third when playing shorthanded for a 3:1 Red Bulls lead after 40 minutes. It was a hard battle in the third and with 17 seconds to go Bud Holloway made the game safe with an empty netter.



Capitals get regular season sweep against Bolzano

The spusu Vienna Capitals also won the fourth season meeting with Bolzano. Marco Insam scored the only first period goal but it was the last time the foxes had reason to celebrate. In the middle frame Ty Loney tied it at one and in the third Mike Zalewski turned the game to Vienna's favour. Sondre Olden finished off the scoring with an empty net goal for a 3:1 home win. While the Caps secured a top-2 place after 44 rounds, Bolzano failed to qualify for pick round.

Graz wins thanks to third period brace
The Moser Medical Graz99ers defended 5th place with a road win in Linz, it was their sixth successive victory. While Joakim Hillding scored the lone first period goal, Brian Lebler was the only player who found the back of the net in the second. Early in the third Zusevics and Oleksuk scored a brace for Graz and this was enough to win the game as Linz could only pull one back with an Umicevic goal. With two games remaining, Graz has a four-point advantage to Villach and Linz.



Villach prolongs winning streak at home

In their fourth season meeting with Znojmo, Villach got the first win on Sunday. With goals from Bjorkstrand an Fraser the hosts had a 2:0 lead early in the second. Soon after Kosnar got Znojmo on the scoreboard, Pollastrone restored the two-goal lead. With his first goal of the season, Stefan Bacher even made it a three-goal game. In the end it was the game winner as the Czech side scored two but could not force overtime anymore.
