With a 4:1 home-win against EC Red Bull Salzburg leader Moser Medical Graz 99ers remain unbeaten in the pick round. The Styrians got their seventh consecutive win, while the vice-champion lost its third game in a row dropping to fifth place in standings. After a non-goal first period, in which both teams did not create much chances on the offensive end, Graz made the preliminary decision around halfway through the second. Zintis Zusevics and Karl Johansson each netted within 19 seconds. About one minute to go in the middle frame Ty Loney got his colors on winning ways with a placed shot in the top-corner. Salzburg’s John Hughes pulled one back with a deflection early in the last. The Red Bulls increased their speed but were not able to short the deficit again. Daniel Oberkofler rounded off the score with a long-range shot.

The spusu Vienna Capitals snatched up the pursuer clash against the EC-KAC beating the Carinthians 4:1. Vienna remains unbeaten in the pick round, while the EC-KAC suffered its first defeat after five consecutive wins. Late in the first the home team got on the scoreboard as Riley Holzapfel converted a rebound less than 1,5 minutes to go. Sondre Olden doubled up 51 seconds after the first intermission assisted by Kelsey Tessier. Vienna pushed for the third goal but was not able to convert its dominance into goals. Soon later and again seconds to go, the Viennese increased the lead by Alex Wall. After capturing the puck in the neutral-zone the home team had a three-on-two situation and Wall slid the puck under Madlener’s pad. Trailing three after two frames, Thomas Koch pulled one back for the guests after 44 minutes. The seconds were ticking away on the chance for Klagenfurt to mount any late comeback despite a much-improved performance overall in the third. After the guests pulled their goalie, Vienna’s Kelsey Tessier scored an empty-netter for the final result.

The HCB Südtirol Alperia got its first win in the pick round after beating Fehervar AV19 5:2. While the South Tyrolean moved up to fourth place in standings, the Hungarians remain pointless on the sixth place. With Alex Petan opening the score late in the first, the home team took a 1:0-lead into the second frame. Harri Tikkanen was able to balance on powerplay until the hosts got their colors on winning ways. Three goals in less than five minutes gave the reigning champion a comfortable lead after two frames and Luca Frigo decided the game early in the last making the 5:1. Fehervar managed to pull one back but could not reopen the game again.

The HC Orli Znojmo won its third game in the qualification round too and defended its leading position, after defeating Dornbirn Bulldogs 5:3. The Austrian side stays third five points behind second place respectively the playoffs. Both teams started very quickly into the game. Visitors opened the scoring after 65 seconds when Alexandre Picard deflected a shot from the blue line, but Znojmo responded shortly afterwards, Allan McPherson netting a rebound from close range to make it 1-1. Dornbirn then conceded a very unlucky goal through two deflections of their own defensemen, credited to Dominik Tejnor. C.J. Stretch then increased home lead to 3-1 with another deflected shot, but Jerome Gauthier pulled one back a minute later courtesy of a blue line shot. High tempo faded a bit in the second period as both teams concentrated on puck possession in a highly emotional game full of penalties. An even period eventually brought an equalizer for the visitors when Brendan O´Donnell scored on a powerplay in the final minute to pull his team to 3-3. Eventually Orli decided the game for themselves when Patrik Parkkonen converted a powerplay six minutes into the third period and Nicolas Hlava took advantage of a loose puck in the offensive zone three minutes later to seal the win for the home team.

The EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz got their first win in the qualification round. The upper Austrians celebrated a 4:3 home-win against HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie” and remain second in standings, while the Tyrolese are still last. A hard-fought first frame was tied at one, with Michael Davies balancing the score after a deflection of Manuel Lamoreux gave the guests the lead halfway through the first. In a high-paced game Valentin Leiler, who came back after a long injury, took the lead for the guests in the 24th minute. But the guests responded quickly as Nicholas Ross overcame Linz’ goalie David Kickert. Still in the second the hosts take the lead for the first time, after Dan DaSilva realized a nice combination on powerplay. Later in the last, Carle increased the lead for Linz. Tomas Kudelka pulled one back for the guests around halfway through the last. The “sharks” pushed but the Black Wings defended the result.
