Graz got off a good start – and was 2-0 up after twelve minutes with goals from Michael Boivin and Daniel Oberkofler. The two-goal lead after the first period was restored by Dominik Grafenthin after Will Pelletier had scored the tying goal in the meantime. From the middle third, the Styrians were already missing Oberkofler and Mike Zalewski, who could not continue playing after an injury.

The Upper Austrians bounced back in the middle frame, at the beginning of the final period Rafael Rotter balanced the score with his premiere goal for Linz. Then Graz picked it up: Grafenthin scored his second through the pads of Thomas Höneckl, Mario Altmann airing the puck over the Linz goalie into the net. Rafael Rotter's second goal made it thrilling again, but the hosts secured the one goal lead.
