The left shot from Jönköping developed within the HV71 system, where he not only broke into the professional team but also celebrated two championship titles in 2010 and 2017. After strong seasons in the SHL, his path led him to North America, where he appeared in 166 AHL games and made two NHL appearances for the Detroit Red Wings.

Over the past decade, Almquist has competed in several top European leagues – including the KHL (Cherepovets, Vladivostok, Minsk, Chelyabinsk), the Swiss National League (Bern, Zug), the SHL (HV71, Frölunda) and, most recently, the DEL with Red Bull München and the Kölner Haie. His résumé includes four championship titles, six Champions Hockey League seasons and 20 games for the Swedish national team.

Notably, Almquist played alongside his future opponent Jan Mursak (KAC) on three different teams during his career – in Grand Rapids, Frölunda and Bern.
