The HK SZ Olimpija is one of the favorites in this seasons title race in the Alps Hockey League. After celebrating eleven victories in a row and winning a total of 32 games during the first 40 games the Slovenian side finished the regular season as second with 94 points. In the quarterfinal, the dragons managed to defeat the champions of 2016-17 and last year’s finalist, the Rittner Buam, with an overall victory of 4:2 in the series. In the semifinals, Ljubljana is currently facing EHC Lustenau, which finished the regular season as sixth. In the first two games of this “best-of-5”-series, the Slovenian side was able to beat the Austrians with 4:1 and 4:0 twice. Because of their solid results, the team of Jure Vnuk has huge chances to enter the finals. On Friday they have the chance to fix their final participation. After Ljubljana failed in the previous season in the quarterfinals against Jesenice (0:4), Ljubljana showed consistently good performances this year. The Slovenians have won their last four games in this year's playoffs and are now ready to go into the first decider against Lustenau. The two top scorers Ales Music (23G | 32A) and Gal Koren (21G | 30A) played a major role in the success of the dragons.

In the second semi-final series between the HC Pustertal wolves and the HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, the Slovenian side equalized on Wednesday in the “best-of-5”-semifinal series. The winner of the regular season started as a clear favorite into this series. After the wolves won the first game 3:2 after overtime, Jesenice defeated the South Tyrolean in the second leg also 3:2 after extra time. Therefore, in this series a decision will be made at the earliest in game four on April 7th.
