HK SZ Olimpija remain second after derby win

In Tuesday’s Alps Hockey League games HK SZ Olimpija claimed a 5:3 derby win against HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, thanks to an outstanding third frame. The Rittner Buam came out short in the remark of last years final against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and lost 3:4, finishing their winning streak at 11. Further, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it each got important road wins for the pre-playoffs.

Tue, 12.02.2019: HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice vs. HK SZ Olimpija 3:5 (1:1, 2:0, 0:4)

With a strong third frame HK SZ Olimpija achieved the preliminary season sweep against HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice in front of 3.100 spectators. After winning 5:3 on the road, the “dragons” prolongated their winning streak and made the second spot in standings safer. HK SZ Olimpija got off a perfect start with grabbing an early lead thanks to Gal Koren’s goal after 26 seconds. Gaspar Glavic tied it up for the home team later in the first and Jesenice became more self-confident. After getting more aggressive on the offensive end, the hosts were rewarded with the 2:1 lead not even halfway through the second. Philippe Paradies increased the lead later on powerplay. Trailing two, Ljubljana opened the last amazing. The road team scored three unanswered goals within less than 2,5 minutes and turned the game around. Further the “dragons” controlled it and did not allow any comeback of Jesenice. After the hosts pulled their goalie for all-in, Aljaz Chvatal rounded off the score with an empty netter.

L'Asiago is without Michele Marchetti and Francesco Forte. The teams were very contracted and in the first few minutes of play there were no great opportunities for this big match. Then after half time, the home team has 4 minutes of powerplay. The Asiago found the net but was cancelled for a shot of skate. In the final, the yellow-red team put pressure on Renon but the first half was without goals. In the second period the Asiago started very strong. Matteo Tessari found his first goal with a missile at the crossbar. Then the protagonist remained Matteo Tessari who also achieved the 2:0 with a touch in front of the goal after a nice pass by Phil Pietroniro. The Asiago also has on the cues the possibility of another goal ' but the ' appointment with the goal is only postponed. After 35 minutes Naclerio served Magnabosco who scored 3:0. But at the beginning of the third half happened everything. Stefan Quinz opened the goals for the guests with a precise shot. The hosts are unlucky, with Marco Rosa hitting only the post. At 44.23 Henrik Eriksson reopened the match and just 58 seconds later Julian Kostner found the goal of the draw. Then the author of the goal Kostner has to sit for two minutes in the bench penalty Asiago took advantage of the numeric superiority and took the lead again with Anthony Bardaro, who scored 4-3. Then the Asiago controlled the game and don't risk anything anymore, so the match ended with the suffered success of the hosts. After 11 consecutive victories the Renon surrendered. Asiago consolidated the sixth place and approached the top 4 positions in the standings.

After exactly one-month Fassa returned to play at home in the derby against Gherdeina. The Falcons could no longer dispose of Channing Bresciani who has returned to North America, Soel Costantin, Elias Thum and Hannes Oberdorfer. The brothers Simon and Andreas Vinatzer were absent from the Gherdeina. The first period the game is absolutely balanced and the two teams face each other. A couple of occasions on each side but it was not a surprise the goal of the Falcons, just at the last second of the game of the first half with the winning deflection of Massimo Zanet in superiority. The beginning of the second period was very interesting. Fassa also hits a post but didn’t find a doubling. During a superiority, the home team suffered two goals within 38 seconds. Simon Pitschieler scored on a classic shorthanded breakaway while Michael Sullmann realized the 2:1 after a mistake of the Falcons' defense. In the middle of the game Gherdeina scored two more goals in a very short time with Benjamin Kostner and Michael Sullmann. Now the game was controlled by Gherdeina who then scored the fifth and final goal with Colin Long (49'). Gherdeina won by 5:1 as they consolidated the 11th place in the standings.

Milano and Sterzing were at full strength for this third challenge of the season without important absences. From the very first stages of the game the Wipptal Broncos proved to be very incisive in front of the net. After 4 minutes, the guest line-up took the lead with Matthias Mantinger who, from a close distance, concluded a big scrum in the front of the opposite net. Then the attack of the visitors struck again with a slap shot by Luca Felicetti. But the Broncos team was always very determined and after 14 minutes there was also the 3:0 with a nice combination for the final touch of Tobias Kofler. Milan tried to get back into the game but they found a very determined Gianluca Vallini. In the second half the situation didn’t change. The Wipptal Broncos relied on the veteran Luca Felicetti who in 4 minutes scored two more goals (back shot and intersection shot) for his personal hat-trick. It should be noted that after the fourth goal Milan changed the goalkeeper: Federico Tesini entered and Valle Da Rin left. Milan found the first goal of the evening with a shot from a medium distance of Tanner Burton. But the guest team was always in the lead as they found the 6:1 with Paolo Bustreo at the end of a quick action. In the rest of the second frame there were no other goals. In the third period Milan scored the second goal after 97 seconds with a deflection of Stefan Ilic. In general, the Sterzing just controlled the result as they lowered the pace. The hosts tried to create some opportunities. Gianluca Tilaro halved the disadvantage with a slap shot (48'). But from now on the Broncos didn't give anything anymore and then Brandon Mc Nally set the score for 7:3 in favour of the Broncos with the last goal in the empty net.
