Hockey World Championship Division 1 Group A in Bolzano begins on Sunday

From Sunday, three win2day ICE Hockey League nations - host Italy, Slovenia and Hungary - will play for promotion to the top division in Bolzano. A total of 31 ICE players are represented in the squads of the three nations. Meanwhile, Austria is in the middle of its preparations for the Top Division World Cup in the Czech Republic (May 10 - 26).

In addition to the three ICE nations, South Korea, Japan and Romania will also be competing in Bolzano. Each team has a total of five games to play, with the two best-placed teams advancing to the top division at the end. Hungary and Slovenia were among the top 16 teams in the world last year, but were relegated from the World Cup in Finland and Latvia as the last-placed team in their respective groups. Italy were last represented in the top division in 2022. All matches in Division 1 Group A of the World Cup will take place at the Sparkasse Arena in Bolzano.

The win2day ICE Hockey League is also well represented in Bolzano. A total of 31 players from the multinational league are in the squads of the three ICE nations. Slovenia has thirteen players, followed by hosts Italy with ten representatives and Hungary with eight.

Austria in the middle of preparations for the top division World Cup
While three ICE nations - Italy, Slovenia and Hungary - will be playing for promotion to the top division from Sunday, Austria is in the middle of its preparations for this. The ÖEHV team has played eight test games so far. On Saturday, the team led by headcoach Roger Bader managed a 2:1/SO prestige win against vice world champion Germany. It was the first victory in the current preparation. Austria has one more test game before the World Championship in the Czech Republic (May 10 - 26): On Sunday, May 5 at 19:00 against hockey superpower and defending champion Canada in Vienna. At the World Championships, the red-white-red team will face Denmark (May 11, 16:20), Switzerland (May 12, 20:20), Canada (May 14, 20:20), Finland (May 16, 16:20), hosts the Czech Republic (May 17, 20:20), Norway (May 19, 16:20) and Great Britain (May 21, 12:20) in Prague.
