Home games for leading duo, new arrivals in Fehervar and Salzburg

On Thursday two games open the fifth round of Erste Bank Eishockey Liga with leading duo Vienna Capitals (against Linz) and Villach (against Salzburg) having home advantage. While the Red Bulls signed former NHL player Peter Mueller, Hungarian national team player János Hári joins Fehervar AV19.

  • While Villach last Tuesday Carinthian derby, Salzburg enters the game rested and with their first sense of achievement (Sunday's 5:3 win against Klagenfurt)
  • Villach scored on almost every third power play attempt having a 30.8 per centage
  • In addition Salzburg has the second weakest power play, conceding eight goals against in 21 shorthanded situations (61.9 per cent)
  • Two goals were enough for winning in four of their last seven encounters
  • Salzburg's Alexander Rauchenwald scored in the last two games against his former club
Miha Verlic (EC VSV): „We want to bounce back with a win against Salzburg. Like every other game this will be a tough one as well but if we stick to our plan and play the way we did in Linz, we can defintely get a win.“

Alexander Rauchenwald (EC Red Bull Salzburg): „We will be highly motivated as in our last game on Sunday as we are still way back in the standings. You can only be successful with hard work. We have to deserve every single step to go up.“

  • Vienna Capitals are the only unbeaten team, having an impressive 20:3 goal difference
  • Overlapping this and last season, the Caps have won 17 games in a row - they need just one more win to be the lone record holder (KAC also had 17 wins once)
  • The Black Wings earned four points out of two road games (one win, one OT loss)
  • Last season both teams met six times with Vienna winning four 
  • Only one goal decided the last six games in Vienna betweem these clubs
Rafael Rotter (Vienna Capitals): „It's always emotional against Linz, we are looking forward to this game. The whole team works hard, everyone runs for another. That makes us strong.“ 
 
Troy Ward (Trainer Liwest Black Wings Linz): „We did lots of things well against Villach, had a two-goal lead twice and also our power play worked. But we have to learn to manage a lead. It's all about the team and not about a single player. That's part of a team development.“

New arrivals in Fehervar and Salzburg
Fehervar AV19 signed Hungarian forward János Hári. With joining the club the 25-year-old signs his first pro contract in his home country. Hári played for many years in Finland and Sweden where he hit the ice for SHL club Leksands lately. "With Daniel Koger being out injured, we decided to strenghten our offense. I hope that János can help us", says general mananger Viktor Szelig and the new arrival adds: "It's a new league for me but expectations are high. It's a team sport and I want to do my bit with talent and experience."
 
EC Red Bull Salzburg announced the signing of 29-year-old Peter Mueller who played six NHL seasons (297 games) with Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers. From 2013 to 2015 the forward has also gained experience in Europe, playing for Swiss side Kloten and SHL team Malmö. Last campaign he hit the ice for Providence Bruins in American Hockey League. "I expect high-level hockey. I know what matters from my time in Europe. I'm looking forward to help the Red Bulls", says Mueller who arrives end of the week.
