In front of more than 3,000 spectators in the Villach Stadthalle, a decisive situation already occurred in the third minute. After a check Pioneers player Patrick Spannring had to go to the shower, the Villach team took advantage of the power play with two goals from Dylan MacPherson and Kevin Hancock. The Carinthians dominated the action for long stretches, but Cedric Lacroix got the guests on the scoreboard before the end of the first period. However, VSV pulled away to a 4:1 lead in the second period. The special teams were also responsible for the Eagles' third goal, this time Felix Maxa scored while being shorthanded. With his second goal of the night, MacPherson provided a three-goal lead. The home side did not let anything go and even led 6:2. The Pioneers showed morale and could at least cheer twice again - but after the defeat in Klagenfurt there was nothing to get at the second Carinthian club. With their sixth home win of the season, VSV moved up to second place in the table.

Fehervar defeats leader Pustertal
After HC Pustertal celebrated an away win in Vienna on Friday, the road trip of the league leader also ended with a defeat. Fehérvár had more of the game in the first period and went ahead through Daniel Leavens in the 16th minute. In the middle period, the home side extended it: first Pascal Laberge scored in power play, then Anze Kuralt made it 4:0 with a brace. The visitors from Bruneck did not give up and pulled one back by Arvin Atwal. After a Schofield goal (53./PP) the guests could briefly hope, but Guillaume Leclerc ensured the final decision with the 5:2. Just a few seconds before the end, Dan Catenacci scored for the final result. With the fourth home win in a row, the fourth-placed Hungarians are only one point behind the current league leaders from Pustertal.
