EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV won the first Kärntner Derby of the young season in the win2day ICE Hockey League on home ice on Sunday, as the "Adler", recently defeated at home by EC-KAC four times in a row, won 4-2. Mainly responsible for the Villach victory was John Hughes, as the veteran scored already after 91 seconds for the lead and then gave – each time in the powerplay – the primary assist for the further VSV goals by Kevin Hancock (8./PP1) and Andrew Desjardins (26./PP1). In the 58th minute he decided the game with his second goal after the guests from Klagenfurt had dominated the last period. Villach also won its fourth home game this season.

Ljubljana gives first defeat to leader Pustertal
HK SZ Olimpija inflicted the first defeat of the season on HC Pustertal Wölfe, which remain at the top of the win2day ICE Hockey League. The "Dragons" won 4-2 on the road and thus also won their fourth away game this season. The visitors took the lead in the 9th minute through Trevor Gooch and defended it until the end, thanks in part to Lukas Horak (29 saves). Gooch scored in the 37th minute for the interim 3-1 and was thus mainly responsible for the success of the Slovenians.

Perfect road trip for Pioneers
The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg added a second success to their road trip, after the clear 7-1 in Ljubljana on Friday: They triumphed at the Moser Medical Graz99ers with 3-1. Led by a sovereign David Madlener (32 saves) in goal and a flawless penalty killing – especially at the beginning of the second period over 4.5 minutes – gave the momentum to the guests from Vorarlberg: former 99er Daniel Woger (28./PP1) opened the scoring on the powerplay, Nick Pastujov ensured the decision with a brace. Graz thus also lost in its sixth game of the season.

Knott scores four in Linz first home win
Graham Knott scored four goals to lead the Steinbach Black Wings Linz to a clear 5-2 home victory over Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. The forward scored the first goal after just 38 seconds for the Upper Austrians, which finally celebrated their second win of the season – after four defeats in a row recently – the first in front of a home crowd. The Italians thus remained without a win in their sixth game and remain at the bottom of the table.

Vienna – Salzburg will be replayed
The game #40 between spusu Vienna Capitals and EC Red Bull Salzburg, which was abandoned on Sunday, October 1st, 2023 after the first period and at a score of 0-2, will be replayed, as the abandonment happened before the end of the second period (Gamebook/Fundamental Rules/League Play/§5).
The game could not be continued for safety reasons due to a leakage of the cooling liquid and the resulting undermining of the ice surface.
The game will be rescheduled by the win2day ICE Hockey League Sports Department.
