The HCB Südtirol Alperia defended its home advantage in the "best-of-7" final series against EC Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday. The 1-0 home win in the opening makes the 1-0 series lead for the South Tyroleans. Also in the two previous playoff confrontations, in the 2014 and 2018 finals, the "Foxes" won the first game and subsequently also took the title.

Decisive for the HCB victory was its brilliant defensive performance and an outstanding Sam Harvey: Bolzano defended strongly as a collective, blocked shots and acted physically. Harvey recorded 18 saves, kept a white sheet and secured his second postseason shutout. Overall, it was the eighth game in these playoffs that a team went without conceding a goal.

Since the league was founded in 2000, eleven postseason games have now been won 1-0. Salzburg was involved four times, with the defending champions losing three. Bolzano had to 1-0 games, losing the first 2017 against Vienna.

Of its 17 completed playoff series, HCB Südtirol Alperia, which had to play without Dustin Gazley in game one due to illness, has won every one in which it was in the lead. EC Red Bull Salzburg, on the other hand, managed to turn 13 series in its favor despite trailing. Gazley hit the road for game two, decision will be made after morning skate.
