On Tuesday and Wednesday, the sixth and final matchday of the Champions Hockey League league phase takes place. Currently, all three teams from the win2day ICE Hockey League – EC Red Bull Salzburg, EC-KAC, and HCB Südtirol Alperia – still have a chance to advance to the Round of 16. However, it is also possible that none of the ICE teams will make it to the knockout stage.

Bolzano in action on Tuesday
On Tuesday, HCB Südtirol Alperia will be in action. The 20th-placed ICE team faces Luleå Hockey away and holds the weakest position of the three ICE representatives. Bozen is currently just one point short of the top 16. The Swedes, in 11th place, have a three-point lead over South Tyrol, but their spot in the round of 16 is also not yet secure. Last week, the Foxes narrowly lost at home to ERC Ingolstadt 2-3, despite leading 2-0 after the first period. Luleå lost 0-2 in Bremerhaven. In the Swedish SHL, Luleå celebrated two victories over the weekend and now sits ninth in the standings. Meanwhile, Bolzano lost both their recent matches – the derby against Pustertal (3-5) and at home against Villach (3-6) – dropping to third place in the standings.

KAC battles for a Round of 16 spot in Kuopio
Currently in 16th place, EC-KAC holds the last available round-of-16 spot. On the final matchday of the league phase, they face second-placed KalPa Kuopio away. The Finnish team trails leaders Ilves by only one point and has already secured its spot in the knockout stage. Last week, the KAC lost at home to Tychy 1-4, despite holding a 1-0 lead until eleven minutes before the final buzzer. Kuopio defeated Mountfield convincingly 5-1. In the Finnish league, Kuopio won one of their two matches over the weekend. The KAC played only on Sunday in the ICE, narrowly defeating Pustertal 3-2 in overtime.

Salzburg must secure Round of 16 spot against Berlin
EC Red Bull Salzburg currently sits in 15th place with six points, just ahead of the KAC. To close out the league phase, the Red Bulls face Eisbären Berlin at home, who currently sit 21st with four points. During the current group stage, the reigning German champions already lost 2-3 in Klagenfurt. Last week, Berlin suffered a 1-4 home defeat against Frölunda, while Salzburg lost 1-2 in Odense. In the ICE, the Red Bulls also narrowly lost 2-3 in Székesfehérvár, conceding the decisive goal just three seconds before the final buzzer. Prior to that, they had narrowly beaten Vienna 4-3 in overtime at home. Berlin celebrated two close wins in the DEL over the past weekend.
