Innsbruck celebrates overtime win against Vienna

The HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie won against the spusu Vienna Capitals for the first time after nine defeats in a row. In the 5:4 home win after overtime, the "Sharks" were already with 3:0 in front in the meantime. The game-winning-goal was scored by Braden Christoffer. For the HCI it was the first win after three defeats in a row. In the standings, the Tyroleans move up to the eighth place. The Capitals are fourth in the standings.

The HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie had the better start in the only Saturday game against the spusu Vienna Capitals. The "Sharks" had the first big chance in the third minute of the game. It took until the twelfth minute for the first goal on the Tyrolean side. A shot by Canadian Sam Herr found its way into the net. Shortly before the end of the first period, the home side increased the lead to 2:0 thanks to a sensational individual action by Braden Christoffer.

HCI also set the tone at the beginning of the middle period. Only 50 seconds after the restart Jan Lattner increased the lead to 3:0. In the following the guests from Vienna got better and better into the game. Still in the middle period VIC could equalize the game. The first goal was scored by Marco Richter in the 27th minute oft he game. Only a few minutes later, 20-year-old Armin Preiser scored his first goal in the Capitals' jersey, in his 17th appearance for the Viennese. Four and a half minutes before the end of the period 29-year-old Taylor Vause scored the equalizer in the power play.

In the final period it took only three minutes before the home side struck back and took the lead again. Max Gerlach scored for the first time this evening. But this time the lead did not last either. Benjamin Nissner scored the equalizer for the Capitals five minutes before the end of the game and they had to go into overtime for the second time within 24 hours. Unlike Friday's game against the Dornbirn Bulldogs, the Capitals lost this evening. Braden Christoffer scored in the overtime after 63 seconds to make it 5:4 and thus made his brace perfect. It was the first win of the "Sharks" over the Capitals after nine defeats en suite. In the standings, the Tyroleans move up to the eighth place. The Capitals are in fourth place.
