Klagenfurt celebrated Shut Out win at Bozen, Italians signed new goalie
Before the beginning of the game HCB Südtirol Alperia announced with Pekka Tuokkola their new goalie. The Fin started this season with the Vienna Capitals and has played before (2014 until 2016) also for EC-KAC in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Tuokkola spend most of his career in Finland, where he was Champion with JYP 2009. Besides he played already in Sweden and KHL. Against EC-KAC still Sedlacek started in the net, who was tested quickly by Manuel Ganahl. On the other side Oleksuk could not beat Tomas Duba. Both teams had some more good chances in period 1, but could not take advantage: Richter, Koch (from the slot) or Harand failed to score for Klagenfurt, while Halmo (2x), Angelidis and Egger could not beat Duba. After the re-start the Italians were the chief on the ice most of the time, but Duba was on Fire against DeSousa (solo), Halmo (solo), Sointu or Glira and so the score remained 0:0. The Carinthians chance came in a four minute Power Play in the middle of the game, but Bozen defended well. Bozen also had the first chances in period 3, but Halmo and Sointu missed again. This was finally punished by Klagenfurt: Manuel Geier got a pass from Thomas Koch and scored from his own rebound. Now the Foxes pressured for the equalizer, but Duba was not to beat in this game. The Carinthians stayed dangerous in counter-attacks. After chances from Ganahl, Koch and Geier it was Bischofberger, who scored the 2:0 into the empty net.
Capitals celebrated Shut Out win at Graz
The game started fast and with chances on both sides, but the goalies - Hannu Toivonen and JP Lamoureux – were on Fire. Both teams - 99er Daniel Woger and Cap Kyle Klubertanz in a good Power Play – also hit the post once in period 1. After the re-start the guests from Vienna more and more took the control of the game at Graz. Finally Peter Schneider finished a pass from Riley Holzapfel backhand under the crossbar. Then the guests controlled the game, in which good scoring-chances were missing now. In period 3 the 99ers tried to come back, but they were stopped from the Caps-defense on the blue line and otherwise Lamoureux was on Fire. A mistake from Setzinger initiated the 2:0 from Kelsey Tessier. In the last minutes the Styrians fighted to come back, but even in a Power Play and with an extra-skater the 99ers could not score anymore.
Three points and a new Headcoach for Fehervar AV19
Hannu Järvenpää is the new head coach of Fehérvár AV19. The Fin coached the Hungarians already in 2015/16-season. Besides he was Coach at Ljubljana and Villach in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Lately he worked in DEL 2 at Lausitzer Füchse. Fehervar AV19 started better, Kickert had to save Sarpatki and Luttinen’s shots but there was no goal. The Hungarians dominated in the first five minutes but the away goalie saved all shots. After Gilbert’s pass, LoVecchio was close to scoring. The first goal happened in minute 10, Harty shot in the upper left corner from the blue line, scoring his first goal in blue-white. Fehervar pushed even harder after the goal, and the first chance of Villach was saved by Mac Carruth, then Verlich hit the post. Towards the end of the period Flick fouled, but Fehervar didn’t score on the powerplay. Just a second left in the period, Beach tied the game with a slapshot. The first save of the second period was served by Kickert. After Vincze’s penalty Villach attacked five on four, but without success. On the other end Hari put the puck in the offensive zone and passed to Koger who didn’t miss. Villach used their second powerplay, Verlic deflected Hickmott’s pass and the puck went into the net. In the middle of the game, Platzer had to sit in the penalty box and the Hungarians scored on the powerplay, it was Manavian, who put Fehervar in the lead again with a shot from the blue line. The „Devils” missed another powerplay and five on five, both goalies had to make big saves. A minute left in the middle period, Koger passed in front of the net to Vidmar who scored, then Hari missed a penalty shot at the end of the period.
Just as the first and second, the third period started with Fehervar attacks, however, less dangerous shots were made than in the first 40 minutes. In the middle of the period Walter used a second of hesitation in front of the net and scored. LoVecchio could have answered with a goal right away but he missed the breakaway. Three minutes later Hari and Koger ’copied’ the second goal, Hari passed to the captain of the team in front of the net and the difference was 2 goals again. Not for long, though, Carruth couldn’t save the shot of Beach and finally Sarauer put the rebound in the net. Both teams pushed hard for the remaining time, Greg Holst pulled his goalie for the last 90 seconds, moreover, Manavian fouled before the buzzer, but in the end, Fehervar won the game.
Innsbruck returned on the winning-street
In an equal and interesting game between HC TWK Innsbruck „Die Haie“ and KHL Medvescak Zagreb the fans had to wait 34 minutes for the first goal, then Jeremie Blain scored the 1:0. Just a few minutes later Mitch Wahl extended the lead in a 5-on-3-Power Play. The Tyroleans had now the momentum, but a mistake in the Sharks defense was punished by Koskiranta shorthanded. In the last 20 minutes the Tyroleans tried to defend their lead. The Austrians played strong in the defense. But then the Tyroleans took several penalties. The Croatians got between minute 48 and 51 four Power Plays, three minutes they even played 5-on-3, but without success. So in the final minute Tyler Spurgeon scored the 3:1 into the empty net and fixed the win for Innsbruck.
