Jesenice celebrates clear home win against Merano

In Friday's lone Alps Hockey League game, HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice celebrated a clear 6:1 home win over HC Meran/o Pircher. The Slovenians, for whom Zan Jezovsek scored twice, thus extended their lead in Qualification Round A.

Jesenice got off to the better start in the Qualification Round A top clash and took the lead through Miha Logar in the fifth minute - numerous plush toys then flew onto the ice because of the "Teddy Bear Toss". Although the visitors were on a par for long stretches of the first period, the Slovenians also scored the second goal through Lovro Kuzmanovic. The reigning champions took command in the middle period. After a strong individual performance, Zan Jezovsek added a third goal. Meran goalie Andrei Makarov made some great saves, but Jesenice nevertheless pulled away to 6:0 by the second period break. Backup goalie Matteo Calvi came on for the South Tyroleans in the final period. The visitors managed to score the consolation goal through Brandon McNally on power play, but Jesenice extended their lead in the Qualification Round A with the 6:1 victory.
