Only two days after both Jesenice and Ritten qualified for the semifinals, the teams faced each other in Sportspark Podmežakla. The Slovenians got off to the better start, had more of the game and also the first chances. In the eighth minute Erik Svetina, who shot his team into the semifinals with a brace against Gardena, took the lead after Sotlar's assist- his shot went exactly into the cross corner. Shortly afterwards Ritten conceded the first penalty of the game and when there was a lot of traffic in front of the net, Eric Pance scored to make it 2:0. With this result they also went into the first period break. The Heiskanen team started the second period with a lot of courage, created a lot of pressure and came close to scoring again and again. Julian Kostner just missed (26th), Di Perna found his master in Froberg (34th), before the defender also missed the net by only centimetres (37th). However, the home side had the best chance in the 33rd minute when Pance missed the goal in a shorthanded situation. That Ritten's efforts in the middle period were not in vain was ensured 108 seconds before the siren by Jari Sailio. After a pass from Uusivirta, he scored after a nice move. After the teams did not take too many risks early in the third period, there were top chances on both sides from minute 50. However, the goalkeepers could not be overcome. One minute before the end, Ritten goalie Jake Smith went off the ice, but it remained a narrow home victory for Jesenice. Game two will take place on Tuesday in Klobenstein.
