Alps Hockey League leaders HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice remain unbeaten on home ice and finished their tenth home game of the current season with an 4-2 win over Steel Wings Linz. Furthermore, HC Meran/o Pircher beat a team from the top-6 for the third time in a row and S.G. Cortina Hafro prevailed in the top duel of the round against the "Eisbären" thanks to two powerplay goals. Vice-champion HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice claimed its 14th league win in a row. With a 4-2 home win over Steel Wings Linz, the Slovenians remained without defeat in their tenth home game of the current AHL campaign, but conceded more than one goal for the first time. After trailing early, Planko, Pance and Jezovsek turned the game around until the 25th minute - and even the goal of the guests in the middle period did not shake Jesenice, for whom four different players scored. Zan Jezovsek (1G|1A) scored in his twelfth consecutive game. Goalie Urban Avsenik was starting for the second time this season. He recorded his second win.
Meran/o cheers another win against higher-ranked team
For the third time in a row, HC Meran/o Pircher has beaten a team from the top-6 and thus also a better-ranked team. The South Tyroleans prevailed away at league newcomer Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, in a game marked by many penalties, with 6-3. For the "Cavaliers" it was the second defeat in a row, but they still keep the second place in standings. For Meran/o, which laid the foundation for the victory with two goals in the last two minutes of the first period, Lucas Chiodo and Maurizio Colella each scored a brace and an assist. Filip Kokoska (1G|2A) was on the ice for all three Unterland goals.
Cortina wins it on PP
S.G. Cortina Hafro won the duel with EK Die Zeller Eisbären and two teams from the top-5 with 3-2. After two even periods Cortina's powerplay unit made the difference in the final third: First Mikael Saha (45./PP1) scored for the lead, Francesco Adami (58./PP1) increased in the final period. Cortina celebrated its fourth win in a row and inflicted on the "Eisbären" their first home defeat since October 1st (2:4 vs. JES) and six wins in a row. With their fourth road win, the Italians remain fourth in standings and are now four points ahead of Zell am See.
Cardwell shines in Ritten’s home win
In the clear 5-2 home victory of the Rittner Buam SkyAlps over EC Bregenzerwald, Jakob Cardwell showed up with four points and a multiple point game for the seventh time this season. Ritten's top scorer doubled Janne Tavi's lead (17.) and recorded the primary assist for each of the "Buam's" other three goals. The South Tyroleans defended their sixth place in the table and have now scored at home for the fifth consecutive match. The Vorarlberg side suffered their fifth away defeat in a row, conceding more than five goals on foreign ice for the fourth time in a row.
Kitzbühel turns it with five unanswered
EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel landed a 6-3 comeback win at SHC Fassa Falcons and extended the Italians' losing streak to five. The home team got off to a perfect start, leading 3-1 after eleven minutes. But the Tyroleans fought back, shortened the gap in the first period and turned the game in their favor with three goals in the middle period. For the Eagles, it was the first away win after four defeats away from home en suite.
Salzburg back on track with shootout win
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors, without captain Klaus Heigl, returned to winning ways after two defeats with a 4-3 road win over EHC Lustenau. First, the young Salzburgers gave away an early lead - Lustenau's top line of Puschnik, Hayes and Lucenius put the home team up 2-1 before the end of the first period. Then it was Salzburg's turn again, they were ahead after 26 minutes, this time Lustenau equalized. A close game, which also offered strong saves on both sides, was then decided in the shootout.
