The Red Bull Hockey Juniors had a big surprise in the Master Round and were the first Austrian team to win it. Only a few days later, the Salzburgers followed up with the next surprise at the Alps Hockey League Pick: With the first pick the Red Bull Hockey Juniors decided for league newcomer Hockey Unterland Cavaliers - after the results in the Regular Season the strongest of all eligible teams. "The team wanted and chose Unterland. Unterland, like us, has a young team and it suits us how they play. That's why we think they are the best possible opponent for us," Salzburg head coach Teemu Levijoki explained the decision.

If you look at the results of the direct duels so far this season, this decision is quite understandable. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors have won three of the four meetings. After losing the very first duel of the season with 2:3, Salzburg followed up with a 4:2 in the Regular Season as well as a 3:2 and a 5:3 in the Master Round. The Cavaliers won the last two games in the Master Round against Cortina and just missed out on fourth place. Nevertheless, the intermediate round turned out to be more successful for the Juniors. With five wins in eight games, the young team from Salzburg climbed to the top.
