The top-seeded EC-KAC advanced to the semi-finals of the win2day ICE Hockey League on Friday with a 3:1 win at HC Pustertal. Raphael Herburger gave Klagenfurt the lead in the first period with his second goal of the quarter-final series. The 36-year-old forward, who has already won two league titles, deflected a Unterweger shot decisively. The score remained that way until the third period, when Matt Fraser increased the lead to 0:2. Tommy Purdeller - who was recently voted Young Star of the Year - reduced the deficit in the meantime, but Daniel Obersteiner scored an empty netter to round off the scoring. The Red Jackets thus also won the second playoff series against the South Tyroleans.

HCB Südtirol Alperia also won the third playoff series against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV. The team from Bolzano advanced to the semi-finals with a 4:2 away win. The visitors got off to a perfect start and took the lead after 59 seconds through Dustin Gazley. Adam Helekwa (PP) increased the lead to 2:0 in the seventh minute, and another powerplay goal from Anthony Salinitri (27') put the South Tyroleans in command. The home side only got into the game better in the final period, with Max Coatta and John Hughes reducing the deficit to 2:3, but an empty netter from Simon Bourque then decided the game. Bolzano will face Salzburg in the semi-finals, with the first game taking place in Salzburg on Tuesday.

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz have forced a deciding game in the best-of-7 quarter-final series against the Moser Medical Graz99ers. For the fifth time in a row, the duel between the two teams went into overtime on Friday, equalling a record in European ice hockey. Ian Scheid put the Upper Austrians ahead in the first period with only his third goal of the season, while the home side equalised in the middle period through Marcus Vela. The Styrians had more of the play for long stretches and also took the lead twice in the third period, but the visitors had an answer each time. After a remarkable goal from Shawn St-Amant, the game went into over time again, where Graham Knott scored the game-winner in the 66th minute. The deciding game will take place on Sunday in Linz.
