KAC, Bolzano and Salzburg all clinch playoff spot

On Sunday EC-KAC, HCB Südtirol Alperia and EC Red Bull Salzburg all made the playoffs. While spusu Vienna Capitals extended their lead at the top of the table, Fehervar AV19 earned an important point in the fight for sixth place.

After coming back from a 2:1 deficit, Bolzano beat Liwest Black Wings Linz 4:3 at home to make the playoffs. After a goalless first Mike Blunden opened the scoring on power play early in the middle frame. Andreas Kristler and Brian Lebler (PP) turned the game around until the second intermission, though. It took Bolzano only three minutes to score three in the third for a 4:2 lead. Bracken Kearns pulled one back but the Upper Austrians suffered their first defeat with new coach Tom Rowe.

It was all Vienna in their road game against Dornbirn. Only two days after suffering a defeat at Bolzano, the Caps had a 3:0 lead after only five minutes. With his first of the night Peter Schneider rounded off the first-period scoring. At the halfway point of the game Brock Trotter got Dornbirn on the scoreboard but Olden and Schneider put Vienna 6:1 ahead. With three minutes to go Schneider scored his hat trick for a 9:2 away win.

Before the game KAC honoured former palyer Jamie Lundmark who ended his career at the club. After a goalless first, Matt Neal made the breakthrough early in the second. Johannes Bischofberger added a second on power play. While Klagenfurt goalie Lars Haugen kept a clean sheet, the offense produced three more goals in the last ten minutes for a 5:0 home win. The Carinthians also made the playoffs safe.

In Sunday's first game EC Red Bull Salzburg earned a 4:3 overtime win against Villach but had to fight hard. The visitors took a 2:0 lead into the first intermission as Wolf and Kromp scored a brace. With the only second-period goal, Heinrich halved the deficit. After Stajnoch's third-period equalizer, it was Pollastrone who restored Villach's lead. Mario Huber forced overtime with a power play goal and Herburger got the bonus point in the extra session. The Red Bulls also secured their playoff spot with Linz losing at Bolzano.

Fehervar got off a better start with Szabo taking the lead after eight minutes. Later in the first Garbowsky tied it at one but the Hungarians showed their quality again in the second. Sarpatki and once again Szabo (PP) scored for a two-goal lead. With ten minutes to go Oliver Setzinger pulled one back with a great solo effort. Soon later Caito netted the equalizer. After a goalless overtime, Weihager decided the shootout for Graz. While the 99ers are two points behind leader Vienna, the Hungarians have a two-point advantage to 7th-placed Linz.
