EC-KAC continued their winning run on Friday with a convincing away victory in Ljubljana, further extending their lead at the top of the win2day ICE Hockey League standings. Milan Hockey Club, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season in Budapest. While Linz won after a blistering start, Graz and Villach both came from behind to secure victories.
EC-KAC have set the standard so far this new season. The Klagenfurt side won convincingly in Ljubljana and remain on the maximum points total after four games. Although Olimpija scored the only goal of the first period, the Red Jackets turned the game on its head within 14 seconds after the restart through goals from Hundertpfund and Mursak. The two KAC players each added their second goals of the game in the third period to seal a 7-3 final scoreline.
Milan suffer first defeat
After three wins from their first three games, Milan Hockey Club tasted defeat for the first time. In Budapest, Silye broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute. FTC-Telekom then added two empty-net goals to finish 3-0 winners and claim their first victory of the campaign.
Graz and Villach turn games around
The depleted Moser Medical Graz99ers, with goaltender Patrick Grascher making his league debut, came from behind twice to beat the Vienna Capitals. In front of a strong home crowd, Nick Swaney scored in overtime to secure a 3-2 victory.
After falling behind following the first period in Salzburg, EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV turned things around. The Villach side were efficient with the man advantage, scoring twice on the power play to overturn the game 4-2 – John Hughes netted twice. The third period remained scoreless, and the Red Bulls suffered their fourth defeat of the season.
Black Wings keep their cool
Steinbach Black Wings Linz made a flying start against Pioneers Vorarlberg. Shaw scored after just 39 seconds to take the lead and added a second; by the twelve-minute mark it was already 3-0. The guests equalized in the middle period with three goals in four minutes, but a shorthanded strike from Knott put Linz back in front. In the final minute, Shaw scored an empty-netter to complete his hat-trick and seal a 5-3 win.
