The Red Jackets took the lead in the twelfth minute of this year's home opener against Schwenningen: Nick Petersen scored after an ideal pass from Matt Fraser. Nick Pastujov even had the chance to add a second goal, but the new signing missed a penalty - the score remained 1:0 after 20 minutes. Right after the start of the middle period, Klagenfurt's goalie Florian Vorauer made a good save, but the visitors equalised in the 23rd minute through Zach Senyshyn. The DEL representatives even turned the game in their favour in the third period, with Ken Andre Olimb scoring at the end of a penalty time against the home side (49'). Just four minutes later, Feist buried a rebound to make it 1:3. Petersen reduced the deficit with his second goal of the evening 16.4 seconds before the end, but it came too late and the KAC were beaten 2:3.
