Standings in the "best-of-3" series: 1:1
The EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel won a thriller against the HC Meran/o Pircher 3:2 after overtime on Thursday, forcing a deciding game for a place in the quarter-finals. Joonas Niemelä scored the game-winner after just 23 seconds in the overtime, making him the Top Performer of the second Pre-Playoff matchday. The South Tyroleans won game one of the series in Kitzbühel with 6:3. It was Merano's first win at the Sportpark Kitzbühel since November 4, 2021 and it was also the first home defeat for the Tyroleans since December. Merano, on the other hand, are in very good form away from home, having won six of their last eight games. They have scored at least four goals in each of their six victories. Should the South Tyroleans prevail on Saturday, it would be their first quarter-final appearance in the Alps Hockey League. Kitzbühel would qualify for the Top-8 for the second time in total. Last season, the Tyroleans lost 2:4 to Ritten in the quarter-finals.

Quarter-final pick on Sunday
In the second Pre-Playoff pairing, the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers prevailed against the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, meaning that seven of the eight quarterfinalists have already been determined. The quarter-final pairings will be chosen in a manager video conference on Sunday morning. The duels will then be announced on the Alps Hockey League channels.
