In Thursday night’s Alps Hockey League games, league leaders EC Die Adler Kitzbühel celebrated a dominant win over the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, increasing their lead among their competitors. Additionally, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan secured a comeback road win against HK RST Pellet Celje, helping them move away from the bottom of the standings. The EK Zeller Eisbären as well as HC Meran/o Pircher were able to celebrate a victory, with Meran winning in overtime.
League leaders EC Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel hosted their close followers, Red Bull Hockey Juniors, at home, securing a decisive 6:1 victory. Two goals, including Christopher Schutz’s fifth of the season, set the tone for Kitzbühel, leaving the Salzburg squad scoreless at 0:2 by the end of the first period. The Red Bull Hockey juniors found their way back into the game with a goal by Leon Kolarik, but the eagles restored their two-goal lead toward the end of the second period. Three goals in the final period sealed the win for Kitzbühel, allowing them to maintain their lead in the standings.
Wipptal with a comeback securing a road win
HK RST Pellet Celje experienced a major turnaround in their game against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, ultimately losing at home with a score of 4:6. The home team started off with a 2:0 lead in the first period, with the first goal being Mikus Mintautiskis’s sixth of the season. Celje extended their lead early in the second period with a goal by Jure Sotlar, marking his fifth goal in four consecutive games. Wipptal found their answer nearly six minutes later, scoring twice within a two-minute span to end the second period at 3:2. The Slovenians managed to increase their lead in the third, but the Broncos mounted a comeback, scoring four unanswered goals to secure their road win and moving themselves away from the bottom of the standings.
The EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated a 4:1 win over S.G. Cortina Hafro, marking their third consecutive win. After a scoreless first period, Cortina found the back of the net with a goal by Riccardo Lacedelli, his fourth of the season. The “Eisbären” equalized in the third period with a goal by Daniel Ban, and three following goals by Zell am See within three minutes secured the home win in front of 1,309 spectators. The victory helped Zell am See move themselves up to third place in the standings.
Overtime derby win for Meran
HC Meran/o Pircher celebrated a 2:1 overtime derby victory at home against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. Meran took the lead in the first period, but the “Cavaliers” responded, equalizing the score in the second period. With a goal each in the final period, the game went into overtime, where Massimo Pietroniro secured the win for Meran in the final minute before a potential shootout, moving Meran up to sixth place.
