Klagenfurt had two early power plays but could not take advantage as Andrew Kozek missed the puck from close range. The Caps did not generate much on the attack in the opening period but they did well defensively. Patrick Harand and Thomas Hundertpfund failed to score after solo attempts because of Caps goalie Lamoureux and the first ended goalless. The second was characterized by many penalties. Klagenfurt got the lead when Johannes Bischofberger made the breakthrough in the 25th minute. It took the hosts some attempts but late in the period their power play worked well with Nick Petersen and Matthew Neal adding two more goals for a 3:0 KAC lead after two periods. After the restart the Caps came out hard and with ten minutes to go they were rewarded as Rafael Rotter got them on the scoreboard with a power play marker. Just three minutes later Kelsey Tessier made it a one-goal game. In a final push the visitors pulled their goalie but Klagenfurt killed the clock successfully.
