With only two more group stage gamedays left, the Champions Hockey League is entering a decisive phase. When the pucks drop for gameday 5 on Tuesday this week, the two Austrian teams Moser Medical Graz99ers and spusu Vienna Capitals each get the last chance for remaining in the race being promoted to the last 16 in the CHL. Both teams need a win.

Decisive game for spusu Vienna Capitals
With playing the fifth and second last game of the group stage in Champions Hockey League, Erste Bank Eishockey Liga vice champion spusu Vienna Capitals heads into its first decisive game of the season. To remain in the race for being promoted to the last sixteen, the Viennese need to snatch up a road-win at GKS Tychy. Further, the Caps needs a support of already qualified Adler Mannheim, which take on Djurgarden Stockholm. The Swedish side has six points more on its side and will be qualify with any point against Mannheim.

Niki Hartl, forward VIC: „In the CHL we gained a road-win at Djurgarden and suffered a tight loss at home. If we continue like that, making the bits and bobs as last time, we have a good chance to snatch up a road win and another victory at home next week too.”

Moser Medical Graz99ers needs to succeed too
To stay in the race for the last sixteen, the Moser Medical Graz99ers need a home win against Mountfield HK too. Further, the Styrian need a support of Frölunda Indians (SWE), which face the Cardiff Devils (WAL). In group H Graz is currently placed fourth, having three points on the side. Mountfield is third, holding six points, while the „devils“ are in the top position.

Graz’ upcoming opponent Mountfield, which plays its third consecutive CHL campaign, won two out of four in the group stage, but they struggled in the domestic league with three losses in a row. While the 99ers lost in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga past gameday on the road at EC-KAC, the are still unbeaten in home games, though losing twice in both CHL home games.

Clemens Krainz, forward G99: „We did not find to our game at Klagenfurt, after the brace of Thomas Koch in the first frame. Prior that we were competitive. We will step up on Tuesday.”
